Hi Folks,

Whilst this is not a great "trip report" I wasn't sure where to post this exactly.

I recently flew from Munich to Doha on the Qatar 787. I was so looking forward to flying on a Dreamliner but I was so disappointed with the experience I thought I would share.

Here's a photo of the very first thing that I noticed when I sat down at my seat.

Hello Entertainment Box! http://imgur.com/E9DwBRk.jpg

Without getting in to a rant about this, I thought a 787 being a brand new plane would get a brand new fit out and it would be far more advanced than plonking an 1990's style 747 entertainment box under every second seat. I am tall and have big feet and I need every inch of space in economy. Poor form in my opinion. I was genuinely surprised to see this.

Next comment is the seat width. Now I understand running an airline is a business and getting more people in to a plane would be more economical. But this 787 Qatar seat was really narrow in the 3-3-3 configuartion. So much so that walking down the aisle it was near imposible not to bump every person on the way. I had an aisle seat and was bumped by everyone walking past. I tried making a conscious effort to sit towards the inside but it didn;t really help. Do other airlines all run 3-3-3 in 787 Y? I'd be curious to know. My brother was on the other aisle and also commented that he was bumped constantly for the 5 hour journey. The only safe seats here would be middle seats or the windows.

On the positive side the noise was sigificantly less than the 777 as a comparison. I'm not sure if the more humid air supply or whatever made much difference but those sorts of things are hard to measure from one experience.

The legroom was comparitively good compared to other airlines I've flown (QF, SG, MH) and being 6'3 this is a big issue for me. I was happy on both the 787 and 777 legroom so no compaints here. Just the 787 seat lacked width.

Overall I was disappointed with the Y product. The food was average, no better or worse than any other airline so no problem there. But from one of the worlds leading airlines, the Y seat on their 787 was a total let down. The 777 being much wider with a 3-3-3 config was far more comfortable.

Arriving Doha - Welcome to 35 degree heat at 11pm. http://i.imgur.com/j33GLRr.jpg Oh a bus? Great... :P

I'm still so baffled they could not come up with a better solution for the entertainment box in the foot well. Seriously Qatar?

The 3-3-3 looks very tight. It's also quite a common layout, BA, United and LAN have it too. Wonder if J* will go down this route or the 2-4-2 that we are used to with J* and QF A330 and B767.

QF use 2-3-2 on the 767
