Hi all,

As a first time poster i'd like to thank everyone for providing such great information.

I'm looking to get flights for 2 to LAX, JFK or DFW in December this year. I'd like to leave oz either on the 7th, 8th or 9th of December and return on the 3rd or Jan

Looking at QF flights only. If I depart on the mentioned dates my return journey is $2067. If I was to leave before the 28th of November I can take advantage of the sale and get $1199 with the same return date. I understand the departure date effects the return date price however I'm hoping someone can recall when Qantas start to reduce these fares if the loads arn't high. I get there are a number of factors here but i'm really just looking for historical information if anyone has it.

Thanks

Hi walkabout, welcome to AFF :)

There's certainly a difference in the fares; as you are probably aware, the reason they are not on sale after 28 November is that loads can be (very) high during the Christmas period. I don't think it is likely that the price for December will drop, but I wouldn't rule it out.

I would say that if you can go a week earlier, then take the $1199 fare now while you can. That's a very good price for QF. If not, you might as well hedge your bets and wait and see. I doubt the price will go down, but I doubt it will go up either in the near future, but wait too long and it could well.

The QF sale ends in about 5 ,minutes lol, so if you want that cheap fare you'll need to book it now

My bids were 'passed in" & shall be entering into further negotiations in the near future.. The 'hyped up" time limiting campaign often makes me dubious...

$1199 to the LAX is a wickedly good price if it's on QF93/94 (or equivalent for other Eastern seaboard cities). If you leave in that earlier period, for an economy fare, you shouldn't pay anything over $1380 for QF93/94.

Dec and Jan is terrible for flights to the USA generally as people take their annual leave over this period. May be worth having a look at VA...
