Qantas service?

John, and others .... I do to some point agree with the op's opinion, and yours too.

But, Ageism and Physical figure Shaming is where the line was crossed in the thread, which the OP has Addressed.

And yes, opinion is opinion, of course...... But targeting certain Age and Weight of people is MEANINGLESS and Hurtful for no particularly good reason nor outcome..

A skinny 40 year old Lady or a buxom 20 year Lady can have a bad day. ... and vice versa

Or maybe the Pax was having a Bad Day regularily and perceiving it in such a Fashion.
Whether he be Slim or More? Younger or , well, lets say 'advanced in age'

Kind regards, Donovan

And yet all I read was a couple of statements of fact in the OPs' eyes - ie an opinion. I certainly didn't see any shaming.

You say Tomayto, I say Tomahto etc etc.

I don't give a stuff whether my FA is Old or Young, Fat or Skinny, Male or Female, Ugly or Attractive, having a good day or Bad day. As long as they do the job they are there to do. I don't want to interact with them, I would like them to bring me a drink when I ask for one, feed me when they are ready in line with the flights policy and check that I am still breathing if I haven't moved for a long time:). I am a simple flyer and simple person, I don't need constant molycoodling from anyone. Thank god we are all different and you all are not like me.

Thank you for the reply.

I think I was not specific enough. I previously had issues with the older FAs on Qantas flights. Older FAs on other airlines have been excellent.

Qantas had the oldest flight attendants at the time and provided subpar service. It appeared they no longer enjoyed their job and took it out on passengers. This might have been due to the poor upper management at the time but who knows. It stood out to me on Qantas flights because the majority were older and it just happened that the service was also terrible.

Wow Generalisation much??! Amazing.

This reflects an attitude of yours that probably colours your experience - or perception of it.. I mean you clearly have a beef with the airline and management so probably find ways to find poor service.

If you want examples of older FA's providing poor service and attitude you should try a US major. I have plenty of experiences on UA... and plenty of wonderful experiences (such as vetrans of PA who *know* what service is!).

My personal experience of QF domestic and int crews over the past few years have all been very very good. I can only think of a couple of experiences across hundreds of flights where I would think "that FA is having a bad day" - in general all excellent - and not just to me with my status but I have witnessed many interactions with other passengers, kids and others etc.

Each to their own, but I do think if one goes in expecting to be disappointed they will find a way to be.....

Then again some of the best FAs I have come across have been AAs DFW based crew flying to and from Japan. They are very definitely quite old.

Understand and agree. My point really was two fold..

1. You simply can't tar EVERYONE with the same brush

2. US legacy airlines, more than most, with their unionised FA ranks means many seniors hold positions. Many of them are great. Some not so much (I had one just 2 weeks ago on a 15 hour flight complaining to all she couldn't bend and had a limp and I seriously wondered about her ability in an emergency situation which is the most important "service" they are there for). As I say others are spectacular.

FA's, no matter the age, size, race, etc are *people* and some are good, some are poor and most are average. And since such things such as "service" can be very subjective I really wonder about this whole thread.

For example does one "blame" a FA for the product they are given to work with - like food and bev options, or the service model of a particular flight - like the late night "suppers" out of the USA and so on.

Let's just not generalise about anyone I think is the best bet.

Is this perhaps QF's problem

I couldn't care less if the FAs are female, male, older, younger, gay, straight, bi, transgender, overweight, underweight, black, white etc etc etc.
Service is service - good or bad.
If they are all able to evacuate an aircraft safely in an emergency, that's all good with me.

You want young, and slim/svelte, go with Virgin Australia.
I can't complain about my QF service, they provide me with what I need, eat/space/sleep, and that is all I care for.
I don't need to look at them for the rest of my life, not like as if they are with me for ever, but only for the duration of the trip at hand.

To answer the OP's question: if you last travelled QF 5-6 years ago, this was possibly at one of the low staff-morale points in QF's history, which ultimately led to AJ's historic grounding of the fleet. In the period after this, things started to pick up for the company and I definitely noticed a general improvement in the attitude of staff, both young, old, skinny and plus-sized. I'd definitely suggest giving them another go. Of course, each day can bring its own challenges to any FA and their response to individual passengers. YMMV.

Hi, I'm pretty new here but thought it would be a good place to ask.

The last time I flew Qantas was 5-6 years ago. I tried business on a few trips and received terrible service. I haven't flown on them since. The majority of the flight attendants were overweight, over 40 and generally in a bad mood.

Has this improved in recent years and specifically in business class?

QF service is inconsistent. Always have since I can remember, nothing changed in the past 5-6 years.

I don't agree the majority of FAs are overweight, over 40 and in bad mood. Sounds like you're describing UA here and QF FAs are so much better.

Service in J ranges from OK to fantastic. I've never experienced terrible service onboard any class on QF.

If you want consistent good service I'd recommend sticking to the Asian airlines, particularly those from Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. I heard Garuda are great too but no personal experience with them.
