Hi all,

I hardly fly and as such I've never got past Silver status on QF. (no status currently)

I have a business class flight booked from MEL-SYD on the new config. The front seats, in particular 2A and 4A are blocked from selection. (see attached images)

Is there any way to select one of those seats? If I put in a Gold/Platinum frequent flyer number into the booking, will this open them up?

edit: I understand they will open up around 72 hours prior to departure, but its already filling up and I'm worried by then all the good seats will be taken!

Thank you in advance!

I don't think putting a different FF number is an option - it wouldn't be you then.

It's blocked for a reason - you don't have status.:) Try at T-72 hours as you suggest.

For such a short flight, does it really matter what seat you have? That said, the service on these flights is very slow, in my experience, no matter where you sit. Up front you may have more likelihood of getting the meal you prefer - but no difference other than this.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yep different frequent flyer number different person, unless (just maybe) you were the one a WP1 booking those flights through your account. There is a slim possibility that u may have higher status privileges for those people(only at the time of booking). My other suggestions is calling QFF requesting seat selection in this "important situation for you" person calling should be the highest status and have booked the flight. (it has worked for me and even booked myself exit rows on international flights)! without extra charge. Won't always work however.

Rows 1 to 4 on these are always (IMO) for higher status pax. They are not even available to me as a SG. In your screen shot the seats with an X are for these higher than god pax but are not yet allocated OR SOLD so the may well still be available to you. I wait until T80 when they are released and then reselect the seat I want if they are available.
I suggest sticking with what you have then keep checking for the release

Yes it may be T80, sorry.
I don't mean to be negative, but I'd also only call up to ask for something you are not entitled to if you have a genuine need (eg - a seat has medical power supply or a bassinet) - otherwise you are clogging up the call lines for something that shouldn't be done.
Keep checking online; setup a seat alert on expertflyer; and if nothing else ask on check-in or in the business lounge.
The new suites are good and I'm sure you'll enjoy the flight.
