Qantas Sale Prices Today

I think its unlikely in the short (or even long) term that we will see flights as low as they were two years ago. That was when we were right in the middle of the GFC. Back then I flew MEL-JFK return for just under $1300...no way could I get that again, and I'm happy to settle for around $1800 return this time. Though, some of the prices QF have been suggesting (eg $3000 to LA return) are just crazy.

I recently decided to treat my wife and myself to a first class trip to Bangkok, one on points and one purchased. Points cost was the same on Qantas and BA but the ticket price difference was $2,490 on a Qantas first saver fare compared to BA on line purchase. Both fares on a 747-400 for an 8 hour flight.
Needless to say we are travelling BA while still earning Qantas points on the purchased fare!!!

Its still possible to get to JFK quite cheap if you buy on two seperate bookings. I only fly Virgin America transcon, and last month I got MEL-LAX-MEL for $1097 with VA, and LAX-JFK-LAX for $220 with VX.

Although not as good as I did few years ago, got that $777 return fare with VA plus a $200 transcon VX fare.

Anything sub $1300~ to LAX is quite good in my book.

I recently booked some MEL-SIN and HKG-MEL tickets and Qantas was cheaper than CX and BA. This sort of thing happens all the time. One day one airline is cheaper and another day another airline is cheaper.
