Qantas Platinum FF membership card as a boarding pass?

Hi there, I've recently become a Qantas platinum FF and apparently I can use my card as a boarding pass? is that correct? I can't seem to find anything on the Qantas website to verify this.

Yes, you can. In fact, Qantas FF members of any rank can use their membership card as a boarding pass.

In order for this to work, you need to make sure that your booking has your Qantas FF number registered against it. Just present at the gate; you'll receive a small "receipt" when you've been scanned. The receipt acts a bit like a boarding pass as such - it is essentially for the FAs on board to check where you are and so on in the absence of a proper boarding pass.

This only works for domestic flights.

I've been using my card for a while. They scan the Barcode on the back.
Had some interesting remarks when doing it.
In CNS the FA commented it looks a lot like a credit card. I just smiled and said "yeh it does a bit"
On the weekend i used it and some lady behind me starts asking. "We can use our credit card to board? how can i use my credit card as well?" By that time I was well down the ramp.

I guess it comes down to everyones preference. If you checked in with a machine you may also have a printed boarding pass and people may use that.
Being a collector of boarding passes i usually get a printed boarding pass at the service desk and use my card at the gate to get a receipt.

I've been using mine for years. I dropped back a level this year but still use my original higher status card and it works just fine. I refuse to use the silver one

I've had mixed results at the seamless int to dom transfer.
From "What's this?" with some bemusement when it works, to downright refusal, grudging acceptance and, on occasion, no questions asked.
I try to have a printed BP to avoid the hassle.

I guess it also depends on the location. SYD & BNE are always fine. Never had any issues or refusals using it.
CNS was the only one who seemed to not be as familiar but they still tried it. Testing my memory but perhaps there was another FA around who told the gate agent what to do when they were unsure.

That's a good point, although I used the card anyway since it saved me having to carry a BP with me. Plus, my mobile device and data wasn't as reliable then so couldn't use the mobile BP.

Especially when I was hand luggage only, it was easier just to tap the totem pole and be off without having to handle any more paper. Of course, there are no more totem poles, but then online check-in took care of it in all cases anyway.

If you were sat together you could have kept the pretence going for the entire flight. Hours of endless fun.

So if you are using your SG card even though you are PS, I assume that you are NOT using the PB lane unless you are flying in J......

Of course I don't use that PB lane but queue up with the great unwashed .

Unless I am with MrP who is WP. And from January I shall again be back where I belong as SG.

Well, you are paperless until you get to the gate. With a standard BP, you need to keep that paper safe and flat enough right up to the gate.

That said, the use of the card as a BP is still somewhat limited, until we go truly paperless and there are the appropriate processes to completely support it in multiple configurations and scenarios.

Indeed. They print out a slip at the gate on presentation of the card.
