I am making my annual Aus-SA-Norway run and have option of SAA via Perth of Qantas via Sydney (I live in Melbourne).

The question is this - I really do not like the Qantas 747 sloped J beds - will SAA J be better?

Cheers

Not really.

I think most prefer QF J overall, transfer DOM--> Intl is terrible at both SYD and PER so that's a line ball difference.

By all reports there's not a huge amount in it but QF is a bit more "polished" (usually). YMMV.

Why would you forego a direct flight when the alternative is a transfer at PER? (Figuratively of course)
FWIW - you may end up on a newer bed flying direct as well

Give some love to Perth - we need it!

Jokes aside, I've flown SA J twice between Perth and Johannesburg and it was really very good. There is a transfer bus between the terminals and a new 'slip' road that cuts the journey time between the domestic and international terminals in Perth by at least half I would guess.

That said, if you can get a skybed mark II, you probably couldn't go wrong given a far superior J lounge. And now, noticing your WP, go via SYD . . . nearly everyone else seems to have to.
