Qantas continues with its popular “scenic flights”. After the success of its first scenic flight on 10 October , an eight hour aerial journey taking in Australia’s iconic sights such as the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru, the airline will now offer a “Centenary” edition scenic flight.

On 16 November 2020, the airline will celebrate its 100th birthday. To commemorate this milestone, Qantas will offer a 787 scenic flight over Sydney. In keeping with the centenary theme, the flight number will be QF100, the flight duration will be 100 minutes and the aircraft will be VH-ZNJ named “Longreach” featuring the 100th anniversary livery. Top tier frequent flyers have been given the opportunity to register their interest for this. As expected it will not be cheap.

Anyone received said offer?

SYD based P1 here and just checked my inbox - nada, zip, nothing. Though not surprised as I haven't received any advanced warning from QF for any of the events / things they've done this year (747 flights, scenic flights, bar carts, etc).

Wait, I lie - I did get an 'advance' warning that I could purchase some QF F care packages...

QF know MEL exist but they're a week early (well that's their anniversary) so yeah sadly since we can't travel to SYD it's not an option for us.

I would imagine QF will be itching (seriously) to offer omething out of MEL if only for the pent up demand... hopefully anyway!

From next week, it certainly looks like there will be no restrictions in place on distance travelling from home or reasons to leave home, so SAS could if they wanted to offer a scenic flight out of MEL!

Interesting that not all P1s are created equal :) How does that happen?

What a great way to celebrate the QF Centenary. Hoping some seats might be available for us at the other end of the loyalty tier.

Maybe it was offered to SYD-based P1s like the J seats for the scenic flights. I'm not 100% convinced about this theory though because from what I've previously read there were other P1 things in MEL I also missed out on.

Read a few post up @Fergo747 is reporting he/she is a SYD based P1and did not receive any advance invite.

Yes, but in terms of this flight obviously QF could not offer MEL folks the chance to get on it since NSW borders are closed until 23 November.

They could offer a flight from MEL as you suggest but remember the Premier has only mooted the changes from 9 November but it has not been announced and QF would need time to prepare for such a flight anyway let alone to ascertain demand etc.

QF will have to wait for the Premier to actually make good (which I am sure he will) but right now nothing is set in stone.

Hopefully something perhaps in December ....

"The rest of the Economy cabin will be offered to Qantas staff with selection via a lottery based system."

Nice to see Qantas haven't forgotten about their staff ... unless they are secretly exploring additional revenue sources

For anyone curious about seating options and availability (once it comes on sale for a brief second to the rest of us), looks like a few seats have already been allocated to those lucky P1's.

Namely all J window seats taken; meaning the 22 available J seats will be in the E & F centre sections.
Appears most of the PE seats are already taken.
Rows 40 - 43 A/C & H/K in Y pretty much taken already.

Qantas is using the same ZZF destination code as for pervious joy flights.

The 22J seats are the window seats already allocated. I would think that the middle seats in J will be QF allocated, not for sale. This is how the Great Southern Land flight operated.
I don’t know for sure that there will be any public sale of tickets beyond what has already been allocated to P1.

...secretly exploring additional revenue sources
Or doing a "training opportunity" to get staff aware of the ins and outs of the 787, seeing that they could use only them (787 and A350s, once they/if they start using these wide bodies for long haul flights.
A330 can only go so far as is, and the 380 might not suit.
