Qantas Offers A380 Simulator Experience

Wow, the thing that sells it is that it's a 2-hour experience, so you really get time to enjoy the experience.

A serious question (not starting a fly-by-wire or Airbus v Boeing debate), but would the sim experience received in the 380 come close to that of the 747?

In the 747, the thrust levers move on their own (when on autopilot or resetting the sim), and the yoke is a *very* manual and truly flying-like control. By comparison, the 380 might feel more like a giant video game (with the joystick and digital thrust levers), albeit with the full-motion aspect.

Of course, having experienced the 747 and 767 QF simulators, I'd be keen to try the 380, but given the single time slot available, along with the increased cost compared to the 747, and that it would require an overnight stay for non-SYD residents (myself included), I probably can't justify it at this stage.

Of course, if the upgrades that I've requested for my partner and I don't clear in December (PVG and NRT), then I might just have to write another (virtual) trip report! :)

At 10.45pm I think some of my experience would have to be in a lie-flat bed!

Is this something that can be purchased for the A380? I can see the 747 1 hour experience is available for around $1300..

Was thinking of redeeming points for the 747 simulator earlier this year but now this sounds better! It is also more than twice the cost in points, 115,000 vs 275,000 but then it is double the length...

decisions decisions..

That'd be an awesome experience, but at 275K QFF points, tell 'em they're Wunala dreamin! Depending on how you value your QFF points, that's anywhere from $3,000-$10,000 AUD! Will stick with X-Plane 10 thank you very much.

Am with you Gold Member! At 25,000 points to upgrade PE to J (or J to F) AUS-HKG for example, I think I would prefer 11 upgrades (at 9 hours each....)....

Cheers

I think that much for a little plastic joystick control while interesting is not my thing.

Needs a stick and some big levers in the centre.

Matt
