Thought I'd tap into the groups knowledge to save me some heart ache.

I'm currently a Gold FF thanks to some domestic work travel and my own travel on guilt trip visits to my family who moved out to a mining town. With my current flights booked I'll need 95sc at the end of March with my membership year running out on the 31st of July.

I'm going on a 4 month self funded work project to London flying out on the 1st of April and returning mid August.

I can only afford a discount economy flight and one way is going to leave me 15sc short.

So I was wondering how likely any of the following will be:

1. Double SC Offer popping up in March with a requal date of 31st of July.
2. Sale fare popping up between now and March for LHR as current prices are $2400 return.
3. Any decent one world options in Europe to pick up some extra SC.

Thanks in advance!

Assuming you have the required four QF flights and just need 15 SCs then any domestic flight in the UK/EU is going to earn the 15 required (min SC earn is 10 so a return nets 20).

Just needs to be an eligible flight for earning.

BA flights earn at discount economy rates in these booking classes:

GKLMNOQSV

BA flights earn at economy rates in these:

BHY

Just checking on line you can get LHR-MAN-LHR for GBP80 - about $130 which is $6/SC which is expensive but does get you the SCs needed. I just can't see where you can check that it is an eligible fare.

BNE-MEL will earn 15 SCs in discount economy - could you book your flight to London via Melbourne?

Have you had a look at AB (Air Berlin)? You find some return trips from STN to Europe for 100 euro. Ok more expensive then simongr's run, but maybe you would like to do a little trip somewhere in Europe? Also look out for flights with Finnair, Iberia and BA into Europe. Just remember book into the right fare class to get SC's!

How can you find fare class on BA? I have en existing booking and I can't find it anywhere in my booking on ba.com or checkmytip.

Edit - found it under selling on class on ba.com

Not easy to find.

just had a quick look and it says SCs are earned on al eligible booking classes on BA flights, had a look and the only ones that don't seem to earn are award classes, I agree, a quick hop on a OW carrier whilst in Europe should do the trick!

If you have the option you could travel to London with Finnair and get the needed points from the Helsinki to London leg. They also have some good fares often out of Asia.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions.

I definitely have a plan to get to Berlin in July so that should get me there and I'm sure some other weekend trips could pop up from time to time.

Here's to hoping that Qantas puts out a sale on Europe flights soon so I can book a few more weekend getaways with the savings! But the Finnair option is also a good one and I'll keep my eyes out for those on Skyscanner!
