Even more Airbus on the way

QANTAS SNUBS BOEING TO ORDER SIX MORE A321S FREIGHTERS

Qantas is set to purchase six more A321s that it will then convert into freighters to replace its ageing 737s.

The airline said the surprise expansion was due to a long-term change in online shopping habits, spurred on by the pandemic.

Qantas’ freight division already has three A321P2Fs (passenger to freighters) and plans to also convert two widebody A330s for cargo use.

The news will come as a further blow to planemaker Boeing after it earlier agreed a deal with Airbus to make its narrowbodies the backbone of its future domestic fleet.

2 of their existing A321P2Fs freighters are 'transfers' from JQ. The others are ex-Onur Air. All were ex passenger A321ceo. This is similar to when Network Aviation "acquires new" A320s transferred from JQ.

It's currently speculated (and I'll probably would put a few $ myself) that at least some of the new 'freighters' will be "transfers" from JQ.

So what? JQ can't fill it's 321s?

I've just been on a full one, MEL-PER.

Or, are they (JQ) just buying new ones?

Release stating will aquire “on the open market” but i’d say there’s a fair chance they’ll be ex-JQ.

I’m sure JQ can seek an appropriate price with an in-demand airframe……

Well overdue. It’s a real struggle currently.
The 146’s are on their last legs too and this is all part of the replacement program

Q: is the related party transaction at arms length?
Has always been rumours that such transactions have always been to the benefit of JQ so that QF has ammunition to negotiate “better” deals with employee EBA
QF staff don’t fly the Qantas Freight aircraft. By this stage I’d expect AJ is probably using the freight rates against JQ.

Who employs the QF freight pilots?
