OK so may you know me now from my cough sessions in the forums lately. If you read deeply you'd understand I really do give a sh%t about our great national icon. I was lucky enough that when I was a kid one of my dad's good mates was the QF senior engineer so I got to sit in the pilots seat during our own personal family tour of the first 747-238B VH-EBA in I think 1970. So I retain a long standing attachment for our internationally best known brand to live on & continue generating profound respect.

To help relive the old days that made air travellers feel special but mainly just for the history I'm travelling to Longreach with the prime objective of experiencing the QF founders museum on Friday 8th April 2011. The museum has been very communicative in helping me look forward to this forthcoming experience. (Google Qantas Museum).

I invite fellow AFF members to join me for the fun & learning of the QF past then to chew the fat afterwards over a drink or three. I'm staying in a private bungalow as you may also for $89 at the adjacent Discovery Holiday Park, 12 Thrush Road, Longreach 4730 QLD. (Best try Wotif). All within walking distance.

Please be aware the flight from BRS to Longreach on 8th of April is QF2534 DEP 08:15AM {so a 06:05AM SYD departure to connect, get busy as there's a SYD-BRS special on for the next few days}, (featuring from BRS via Blackall) ARR 11:15AM. Next day flight back to BRS is QF2533 direct to BRS DEP 11:45AM. ARR 13:40PM.

Please PM me beforehand if you want to meet up to share the experience &/or for drink & feed afterwards. I look forward to hearing from you.

Qantas38. Seriously interested in Australian Airline Aviation

Founders Museum is totally worth the trip for any aviation or QF enthusist.

Must say, since watching 'Air Australia' (3 x 50min eps) on QF over the last month, it feels like a trip out to Longreach :D

Have fun out there!

Yep. Took the trip out to Longreach last year when QFlink had $49 one way special from Brisbane to Longreach during Pink Ribbon week. Left Saturday morning flight and returned Sunday afternoon. Checked out the Stockmans Hall of Fame on the Saturday, RSL for dinner, drinks and watched the footy Saturday night, and spent the day at the founders museum on the Sunday before flying home. A wonderful experience indeed and strongly recommend to aviation lovers. Highlight was getting a picture taken standing inside the 747 Rolls Engine! Enjoy your trip on 8/4...

If your are an airline/aircraft buff, you'll enjoy this place. The museum is of international quality/size. The complete tours are worth the extra expense. The staff are focused on making your stay the most informative, personally satisfying experience that's possible.

If you have this sort of interest go there! The flight upwards is mostly via the famous towns of Blackall or Barcaldine. The onboard food is actually better than Cityflyer & typically for a country town the QF staff couldn't be more helpful or friendly.

Quite obviously I really enjoyed my experience at QFOM. I suggest Mr Joyce get up there ASAP. He'll definately learn something about customer service & how to listen & learn if he does!
