Hi guys,

A hopefully straightfoward question... does anyone know if Qantas will status match holders of other OneWorld elite FF membership?

I currently hold American Airlines AAdvantage Platinum (OneWorld) and Velocity Gold, but am a lowly Bronze Qantas FF.

Appreciate I can use my AA membership for OneWorld status perks with Qantas but would prefer to begin claiming these points directly against the Qantas FF program.

Thanks in advance!

I have never heard of anyone having success at asking for a status match.

Likewise, past questions on this have generally resulted in it being a no from Qantas. I can’t remember anyone coming back and saying they were approved.

QF aren't in the habit of offering status matches.
I would just stick with AA and credit the flights to your QF account.

Interesting... is it possible to credit miles/SCs to my QF FF account yet still flash my AA card and QF boarding pass for lounge access?

If so that's perfect - i can run out the year of AA status while building SCs on Qantas.

Cheers for the replies thus far.

I have had a status match due to issues my boss's boss was having (he was the MD of a large corporation) so to keep us all happy they matched my AA EXP to QF WP. This is the only instance I have heard of this.

Also it is fine to credit to QFF and use AA EXP for lounge access - note though that your seat selection will be carpy.

Yep AA plat = OW Sapphire so will get you Business lounge access on Intl routes and Dom QP access.

Exactly this. Though I'd recommend using your AA number when booking your flights; in theory you will get a better range of seating options. Once you're safely in the QP, get one of the dragons to change the FQTV in the booking over to your QF details, so the flight credits where you want it to.

Thanks for the feedback, very prompt and informative :)

Just want to check this as it sounds too good to be true - I'd have expected the airlines would frown on switching the FF number for an existing boarding pass. But if this is possible... then happy days

I did try to get a AA status match but was told by several, no make that many, AA reps that AA do not status match against other OW airlines. If you are outside OW then yes they will consider doing a status match IF you can show them you will be doing a lot of flying on THEIR metal. They did however invite me to do the AA Platinum challenge to fast track my AA EXP goal.

It is also fine to be on a QF flight with your AA number on the booking and flash your QP life card to get the extra baggage allowance-though now just a heavier bag.

The Plat Challenge would have no impact on EXP qualification - it wont accelerate qualification for EXP.

Anyone have any luck with a QF status match of any sorts?

I've tried calling a few times to ask and have been rejected every time!

Nope, you’re just going to have to fly… or status match to CX or another OW carrier, use that status to get into the lounge and then switch numbers.

Sorry I'm a newb, what would I switch my numbers on after I get into lounge?

As I understand it, I buy a ticket on QF with points going to my QF FF, go to loung show my CX gold card and get in. Is that correct or am I missing something?

And you will be rejected every other time you will try.

It is something that QF are fairly consistent with...

Yes you could do that as well, but then why bother asking the question about a status match when you know the way to go ;)

The reason I phrased it the way I did was because a comment not 4 posts above yours that said exactly that. I certainly read it before getting to your post to refresh my knowledge of the thread. :p

haha newb mistake, combined with the manager sitting behind me and a lot of alt tabbing!

I got confused when you said switch the numbers though...

Thanks for your help sam

I asked QF for a status match from my Velocity Platinum. I was able to show 8 upcoming flights on QF… Fired off an email and within 6 hours I had a phone call….. Wow I thought, that was quick…. But so was the very abrupt and rude answer. NO. Not even a polite no, but a flat out "If you want status with Qantas you need to fly with us more" in the rudest QF tone I have heard yet…

I guess on the positive side (Or negative) it shows that QF actively monitor their inbox hourly… :p
