Got an invite for the lunch session about an hour ago and have RSVP'd. As with previous years it's at the National Convention Centre.

Is anyone else going?

Just received my invite, thinking of going if I can escape from work. Is it worthwhile?

I'll probably be there. Haven't sent off the RSVP yet as I'm checking with work first.

It said "dear platinum flyer" but as we have 3 platinums on that e-mail, I am not sure if it was mine or not. :). Miss FM for some reason always seems to get emails ahead of her Dad and I, so it is probably hers. Unfortunately will be in Hong Kong that week celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary, so will have to miss.....

Went along to the Canberra event today.... don't know what others thought but I was fairly uninspired. Is it all about the free food, business card prize draws and showbags ?

I spoke with a range of vendors whose brands I use regularly as I travel... I had hoped to secure some promo codes that I could use for cheaper hotel rates, or loyalty discount offers ... but mostly the staff at the booths just wanted to hand out printed brochures. Best I got was "here's my, card email me and I'll see what I can do".

Still, had some nice chats and a couple of chocolates - didn't bother lining up for the food because I had already lined up to get in and waited to speak with a few vendors and the parking was running out.

What did others think the was best showbag item for the day? Would have been nice to take away that Emirates A380 model (I asked, joking, but they politely declined !!!).

Same old, same old...

This time I ran into a mate and got a bit woozy on the bubbly. I got some cruise brochures and some pens and an American Airlines notepad. But by and large, it's just stuff to chuck away, so unless they actually forced it on me, I politely declined.

I didn't even have lunch - that's a first.

Good to see Finnair there. They upgraded me and the missus KAN-HEL a couple of years back and I've always loved them for that.

No wins this time. Still it's always nice to listen to the speech at the end and watch the lucky winners toddle up to claim their weekend in Newcastle.

The Tasmanian homemade fudge from The Old Woolstore went down rather nicely.

And I was rather happy with the universal travel adaptor supplied by Toga Hotels - especially given as my partner's travel adaptor seems to be on its last legs right now.

I was intending going - had accepted and all, but then things went a bit pear-shaped yesterday morning so got tied up (not literally mind you). A pity as I have been to the travel show before and quite liked it. :(
