Qantas Classic rewards on MH flight

Hi all, I'm looking at redeeming via Qantas classic rewards for MH flight from MEL to KUL. As the trip is a few months away, there aren't any available tickets anymore. However, based on some experiment on redeeming for closer dates like within the next few days to next few weeks, there seem to be some last minute additional tickets been released for redemption - MH direct between MEL and KUL. Any thoughts on the mechanism behind this last minute release on unsold MH seats? I'm wondering if I should just leave it for a last minute redemption or try alternative route to secure for my trip.

Yeah there’s still some options for EK / QF/ JQ via SIN. Im just wondering if anyone has any idea on the mechanism behind the last minute release or T-20? Direct MH is preferred

No rhyme or reason behind why awards are sometimes offered last minute. Maybe loads are light those days or could be a number of factors.
I tend to book what I can at the time so I have a confirmed ticket and then if something opens up better closer to departure I might grab it

I was able to book SYD-KUL-MAA just now, for first week in May on QF website. QF WP here.
