Thanks gillard. Thanks eu. Love your great work.

Wow. Just wow.

Just remember, you're all going to be better off under the carbon tax

So the carbon price is increasing the price of a MEL-SYD flight by less than $2. Whoopdy-do.

Are Qantas investigating jet biofuel? I know Virgin are but am not sure about QF

Actually a bit rough increasing fuel surcharges on 15/2 and blaming the australian Carbon tax which doesn't start until july.
Also the Australia-USA surcharge is going up by the same amount as the Australia--Europe surcharge so how does the EU scheme explain that.
You can fool some of the people but not all.

Assuming VA and other airlines implement similar amounts, SYD-MEL city pair all airlines, say 850,000 available seats per month at 80% load factors x $2 per flight x 12 months

Thats about AU$ 16.3 million dollars collected that otherwise could have been used in the economy by people or businesses

repeat all over the country for other legs on the basis of being a distance tax.

Exactly!

It's another tax and another expense

Will be passed on by business and just ends up costing us more for everything

Thanks Julia

Half of that is actually sent straight back to people in the way of tax breaks and over-compensatory increases to the aged pension. Still used in the economy by people.

I agree with drron. This is a pretty pathetic excuse for a press release. I'm surprised it wasn't written for Qantas by Today Tonight or ACA.

Ah, good old socialism!

Okay - so its a wealth redistribution tax.

But I agree with some of the other posters about the QF press release, as I read the press release the $3.50 EU Carbon Tax is for EU destinations only, the increase in fuel surcharges due to price of fuel are separate and based on distance

Yes, Qantas, blame it on the carbon tax. ;)

Its easy to avoid the carbon tax on flights .... just don't fly, simple. ;)

Thanks Julia ... less people flying means more chances of FASA, more free seats (and then space) if flying Y ... I love it.

I'm with you, drron. Couldn't have put it better.

Lets face it, this is just the start of the carbon tax. All the other airlines will have to follow so it isn't like they are making money out of this.

When is the next election.........I can't wait to punt the Labor party

The carbon tax adds at most $6.86, for a flight to Europe, much less for domestic travel - I think that possibly you're all over-reacting somewhat :)

Keep dreaming that Abbott will repeal all the carbon tax legislation. Abbott can promise, jump up and down, yell and shout or even swim with the sharks but the tax is here and will be still here in 10 years time, mark this post.
