Qantas and "Priority Baggage"

I know this has nothing to do with priority baggage, but why on earth would an aircraft be impounded for not being certified to fly in New Zealand? That just seems so unusual...

TBH with you it sounds like Chinese whispers. It could be a MEL issue that couldn't be fixed in a short time period. Who knows?

As for the baggage, it does seem to be an issue that keeps popping up from year to year. A slightly related question, how well does Priority Baggage work when you check in multiple bags?

Simple.
Check in 1 bag-it comes out last.
Check in 2 bags-1 comes out first, the other last.
Checkin 3 bags-2 come out first, the other last.
and so on.

Hi Oz beachbabe.

I used NGCI at both ends.

I was traveling alone so no reason for my bags to be delayed.

My QFF number was on my ticket.

I hate having to do baggage but as I generally travel for work and have customer files and also stock as well.

I am a Plat member and my bags always seem to be the last out. On Friday night from TSV to BNE even a heap of uni students got there bags before me.

Lets be honest Qantas doesn't understand the term "Priority"????!!!!!

It really makes you wonder if the baggage handlers give a rats about following procedures or just load bags on anyway they want. The system will only work if they do their bit too.

Sounds like exactly what I've experienced in the last ten years.

(exception: cpl of weeks ago with first time using checked baggage on NGCI, first two bags on the carousel. Of course, being Melbourne, it was still a 25 min wait for the carousel to even start.... Nothing unusual there. )

Yep love your quote ozbeachbabe,

I generally made at least 2 trips per week and the only thing i can say is priority baggage is inconsistant.

Re the points upgrade for CNS/BNE, it would depend at what stage that was done. As you checked in when you were still in whY & sent the bag off it would have only been tagged 'Priority' as you weren't rebooked into J until in the QP after which time your baggage had already been checked in. If you do a points upgrade at a kiosk as you are already booked in J then the bags would be tagged 'Business'.

Thanks OzBB,

I upgraded at the QP so quite understand the logic. I usually OLCI and wasn't aware that points upgrades were available from the kiosk, as I am yet to use one.

Although CNS have the old BNE kiosks & are not Next Gen as such they can still do points upgrades. Occasionally a gremlin might find its way into the kiosk & you may get half way through the process then referred to customer service but generally the upgrade will have been done but not checked you in so you might need to see a person to get the boarding pass.

We priority tags on our bags on a flight from Melbourne last night, but our bags didn't come through first. In fact, they didn't come through at all! Qantas lost our "priority" bags and we're still waiting for them.

It is never good when that happens. :( Unfortunately sometimes it does though. Let's hope QF sort it out quickly for you.

QF misplaced my bag when travelling from CNS to BNE.

What I hated more than anything was the fact that QF knew it was left in CNS but didn't ring me to tell me or even leave a message for me. I had to wait for all the bags to come off the flight and then line up at the desk and then start the process.

As soon as I gave her my baggage number tag she knew all about it.

After this as a WP member the service was awesome from QF, i was rang when the bag landed in BNE and asked where do I want it delivered to and when i told them where they said we will be there between this time and this time and then got a follow up call from QF once it was delivered.

If QF in CNS realised they have left a bag behind they should send a message ahead to BNE so you are paged on arrival (saves waiting at the carousel for your bag not to appear) to go to the Baggage Services Desk.

Would have been nice to happen.

The priority tags are a curse!

Especially in Perth, the least disciplined of all domestic ports.

This reflects my experience although line one is a bit more random.

Most recent flights with 3+ bags one is reliably last out despite J class, NGCI tags on everything and Gold FF.

I was in a similar situation a couple of days ago and as I was about to disembark the aircraft they sent me a txt message informing me that my bag didn't catch my flight and that it would be on the next flight and that I should call the baggage centre/line up in BNE. Don't know whether it would have been different had I only had a paper tag but I was using my Q bag tag. I would be very annoyed if they had made me wait for all the bags to come out on the carousel first and then see baggage services.

Overheard a baggage handler saying in his opinion the only thing next gen Qtags were good for was name tags on carry on luggage & he would never travel with them on his checked bags. Hmmmmm

Call me old fashioned... but I don't trust them as yet. That said, I've used it a few times and it's worked, but only on point to point flights. The last two times I tried it (on plain old BNE-SYD flights) my bag did make it out, however the tag was missing (either pinched or more than likely ripped off because it's the size of Oahu). What would have happened if I had a connection? I'd rather spend the extra 10 seconds and print the paper one out (I always print off a boarding pass at the machines anyway. I can give up a few minutes of my time and otherwise I'm quite sure I'll forget what flight I'm on or when I'm supposed to get on it!)
