Hi all

Just received another QAP survey - this time on economy travel. Luckily I haven't flown any international economy in the past twelve months (apart from that one AKL-SYD flight that would have been in J if I hadn't slept in).

Did anyone do the survey - what sort of thoughts are they thinking?

Hi Simon,

I got this survey - basically they're asking what you liked & disliked about the seats you had. It's a comparison of QF to the other airlines you nominate (from their listing).

One of the questions was if you'd be happy to face backwards if it meant more (leg?) room, which I found interesting.

They gave you seat pitch, seat width, IFE included etc on each seat you've flown in and asked your thoughts on each (with an accompanying image). Final question was what you think would make a better economy seat.

Lumbar support in a seat would be wonderful. . . . . .

It rated the importance of things. IFE, food, width of seat, seat pitch, an interesting one about facing forward. Something like, would facing forward be an issue if it offered greater personal space..

I said FULLY AGREE to more space regardless of direction facing.

However, I did have to lie to be able to do it. It limited the selection of economy it was interested in. The only INT economy I've done in the last 12 months is intra asia coughstar. But I've flown QF economy a while ago, it hasn't changed, so I think I can comment on it.

Very light on really. It may be more in depth if you answer that you've flown on virgin, sing, delta etc.

You're correct - if you'd only flown 1 or 2 other airlines, it wouldn't be too interesting a read. I've flown quite a few, so the comparison was interesting, but I note that seat pitch was close in most of the a seats. What it *didn't* specify was the leg room area - which, when added to seat pitch would allow for stretching out further.

And I agreed with you on the directional question too!

BA & CX was extremely close in seat pitch - but the comfort level is waaaay different. I always feel I have more leg room when I fly CX (or Thai) - and the lumbar support (Recaro seats anyone?) is very welcome.

Example of the answer I gave for BA economy seating:

  • Good points for BA - None, pretty much a standard economy seat that's pretty close to QF (apart from the bad points listed below).
  • Bad points for BA - every time I've flown with them the seat/s has been worn out (tray table falls down or armrests are broken. (Last time the arm rest was held together with fluoro tape!!)
