Working here at the GP and i have to say the QF flyover was fantastic! The crew flew over several times and it included some nice turns around the track. Perhaps they saw the F/A-18 demo and wanted to upstage them a bit??? ;):D

Here are some pics I captured on my iPhone as the Lumix was in the workroom. it was the GP Plane VH-OEB.

2012 Australian F1 Grand Prix Qanats Flyover

Only a 747??? A bit unimpressive when the plane is old and other airlines are about to stop using them all together. No A380s available I guess...

;)

(still looked very impressive!)

Ummm - typo in the heading - QANTAS of course...

Just posted some pics... personally I reckon the 747-400 looks better so I was happy! (also was the 747 with the GP decals on it too).. Very impressive air display..

Impressive display but yet again the TV coverage stuffs it up big time.

Re: 2012 Australian F1 Grand Prix Qanats Flyover

The choice of aircraft was intentional, VH-OEB, as it has the F1 stickers on it. At the boxing day test match QF did a fly over with an A380 which was an awesome sight (especially as it seemed to come out of no where). Hopefully they'll sticker up an A380 for next year if they continue on as title sponsor (and even if they don't, they seem to do a fly over anyway)

I was on this aircraft from EZE>SYD 2 weeks ago. The old fella definitely needs the A380 seat upgrades, I tried moving my headrest higher to match my head and the thing fell off !! The FA had a laugh and I asked if they had any super glue or masking tape to fix it.

Whilst the A380 is impressive, and no doubt most people prefer to fly it, I do like the look of the 747 more.

Looking at the amount of slats and flaps that were hanging out, I guess it was slow and noisy with all that drag.

Noisy is just what an F1 crowd enjoys.

Watching the coverage there was a lot of talk about the Qantas lounge and access for PS and above - any idea how good this was? I am half thinking of talking the boy next year (though only 4 so might wait until 5 or 6) and wondering how best to enjoy it without having to sell a kidney.

Re: 2012 Australian F1 Grand Prix Qanats Flyover

The Qantas lounge was good.... but it was open to Silver and above so it was not really exclusive as such. Drink options were limited compared to other bars but seemed cheaper for wine (by 50c per glass). For simply purchasing tickets early, GP Advantage offers many benefits (like a much better exclusive bar with actual views of the track) so I'd try to go for that and not have to rely on Qantas FF status. Just buy tickets super early :)

I agree that noisy is what F1 fans seem to like. It didn't seem that impressive as it followed the FA-18 Hornet, but the Qantas pilot seemed to be having a lot of fun!
