Is there a way to accrue points for these purchases at the overseas rate?

* edit - sorry it's a Signature card not Platinum

I am pretty sure with SQ the currency charged is the departure country. So if you buy a ticket originating from an Australian city, they will always charge your AUD. The only way around this is sometimes when calling the bookings number they MAY charge you in SGD instead.

Now if SQ charge you from an international account, but in AUD convertert at their own rate, I am not sure how Citi see this transaction. I remember calling Westpac about this issue with their KrisFlyer Plat card and asking how does the system see these transactions. I was told them that they 'know' where the transaction came from and it does not matter which currency it is in. I would assume Citi have a similar check where they look at the which country the transaction came from also. I guess you would need to find somebody who can confirm which way points are awarded for each way of doing things.

Buy the ex SIN / HKG from SQ / CX and you will be charged local currency.

Then buy the ex OZ tickets separately to go to SIN / HKG.

Not sure how cost effective that tactic would be compared to a single ex OZ PNR.

Points wise, that's how I see it.
