Hi, i may use cathy pacific airline to go to china around april this year.

however on the way to china, i have to stop over in HK for about 12 hours.

arrival time is around 10pm and departure time is about 10am.

now i have never been to a lounge before so don't laugh if my questions are stupid.

firstly, can i purchase a lounge access in the airport, if so how do i found out the price in advance?

secondly, can i purchase the access from my travel agency or online?

thirdly, can i stay overnight in them, i heard some has time limit.

last, what can i expect from a lounge? my basic needs are some sort of places to sleep, and shower (+brush teeth etc), food is preferred, but no required.

or am i dreaming? a hotel nearby would be better?

Your best option for an overnight stopover would be to go to a hotel.

There are 2 Plaza Premium Lounges available from Lounge Pass in HKG airport and you can book online for £19.00 per person but a maximum 3 hour stay and only open from 6:00-23:59. Most of these pay for use lounges offer basic facilities of food, alcohol beer and wine, shower facilities etc.

As JohnK says, a hotel would be by far the better option for that length of time. You can get to Kowloon is about 40 mins by taxi or Airport Express (which runs until after midnight) rather than using the airport hotel, so at least you can get a good meal or two cheaply, and if price is a problem, wotif.com have got some reasonable hotels going for early April for HK$600-800.

I couldn't imagine just spending 12 hours in an airport, particularly HK where there is so much outside!

Given your arrival and departure times, I would recommend the Citygate Novotel. Will be more expensive than some of the other downtown hotels, but is only a 5 - 10 min shuttle bus ride from the airport. Shuttle bus is free is will still be operating when you arrive into HKG.

In the past I have paid ~ HK$1,100.

No lounges at HKG, either paid of accessible via status for class of fare, are open overnight. They all close after the last departure of the airline associated with the lounge and open a few hours before the first flight for the day.

For hotels close to the airport, look at The Regal (attached to terminal 1 and hence can walk) or Novotel Citigate (free shuttle bus). I have used the Novotel 3 or 4 times for overnight transits at HKG. It is generally a little cheaper than the Regal, but the regal is slightly more convenient. I have a reservation for the Regal for later in the year.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Expensive but for my last overnight in HKG i simply took the train in for the 'W' hotel :) its right at the destination station and a very nice hotel.

if going landside, you might as well get to a hotel room with a real bed etc.
Yeah, but the facility is a 2 minute walk after exiting customs; there's an immediate ~1 hour saving.

I do not know the costs ...

It does not take 1 hour to get to the Regal or Novotel Citigate hotels. I would take the slightly longer walk to the Regal or the shuttle bus to the Novotel and have a real bed for the night.

I was estimating ~30 mins each way ...

Each way, it's a 5-10 minute walk to/from the shuttle bus stop; average in a 10-15 minute wait for the bus and a 10-15 minutes travel time.

thanks for the replies. in that case, i may consider SQ airline in the future.

i did stay in HK airport over night about 2 years ago. lol the whole airport shuts down after 12pm, then i was the only one in the building.

terrible memory :(

Hence the preference for the Regal, which is just the walk component. But I think the Novotel newer, probably a little nicer, and a little cheaper.
