Hi and thanks for reading.

Planning a quick trip to Wellington/NZ next year and we will be flying J SYD>AKL but then ANZ only has Y for Auckland to Wellington. (1hr flight, 3-3 seating).

Because Im fat, hubby usually gets the middle seat, so I want to buy a 3rd seat for just the AKL>WLG>AKL portion (this currently priced about $60-70 one way).

Im planning on booking with VA to get sector recognition.

So... can I book a comfort seat through VA for a partner airline on a mixed fare booking?

Has anyone done this?

thanks,

I think you may need to give the call center a call about this as I doubt you would be able to do it online.

OP, I hope your SYD - AKL flight is with VA and not NZ.
Reason for this is the Airbus320 that NZ uses on some days between SYD - AKL does not have a J, and I have gotten this twice, once was an equipment swap, I booked Works on the 777 NZ118, and for the first few weeks after booking, all was great.
Then I got a schedule change, but I didn't realise how serious (in my point of view) it was, I got palmed onto a narrow 320/737 when the flight number got changed from NZ118 to NZ718, this is the one that departs SYD about 15.45 or so.
If you are flying VA's own plane, than its all good, as VA does have a J, 787 if you are on that one, also has a J, touch wood no equipment swap.
O, the second case, from above, I was supposed to be on the 777 AKL - SYD whY, but someone at NZ/VA got the good idea to stuff me onto VA's 737!
On both occasions, I didn't kick up a stink.
On the case of your AKL - WLG planned trip, can't help on that as I tend to fly direct MEL - WLG/SYD - WLG, bypassing AKL if I am planning to get to WLG direct. Works Deluxe, maybe next time look into the NZ Works Deluxe product, can book online, bypassing the phone contact centre, lower VA SC and no lounge, but you get guaranteed an empty seat next to you front of plane.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
