Ps/P1s on domestic versus International

Going on how full the domestic Melbourne business lounge was the other day just wondering is it more common for Ps to be on domestic flights than international?
On international I have noticed we tend to get a nice hello
On the Melbourne flight nothing .
Not fussed just curious

For domestic there's obviously busier times of the day/week whereas with international there's limited flights to choose. There's also seasonal factors (e.g. holidays such as Christmas).

So domestic I'd say it'd depend when you're travelling. If you're travelling at an off peak time there may be less high status travellers, but at peak times there could be lots that regularly commute. It also would depend on the route. Some routes are more likely to be frequented by leisure travellers e.g. MEL-OOL, MEL-CNS. Whereas e.g. MEL-SYD would be a popular commute for business travellers.

With international it'd be the day of the week and the route as well and the time of year.

Of course in the Domestic Business lounge anyone travelling Business has access and can bring in a guest, WP and P1 can bring in two guests. So a packed lounge could have a number of passengers only getting in based on class flown (or being guested by someone with access).

International flights do tend to be longer whereas especially on short domestic flights e.g. MEL-SYD, the FAs and CSM don't have very long.

On Dom don't expect much particularly on a golden triangle route. I got asked for a drink by name last week on a 5pm SYD-MEL shuttle which was a nice touch.

As above it really is all very dependent on timing and loads but I think there are a large majority that earn status on the domestic routes. IMHO, if you were a heavy international flyer, particularly to Asia and Europe, it wouldn't make a whole load of sense to be with QF given their penalty for non-QF flights to Asia and beyond.

In terms of the MEL Dom J lounge - boy that is one to avoid of late. I had my first taste last Thurs since arriving back to Aus for 10 minutes as the traffic on the freeway was terrible. Glad it was as that is not a place you want to spend a lot of time.

As a reference point, I was on QF422 (10am from MEL-SYD) the other day and saw the CSM's iPad at the door. There were 0 CIPs, 0 CLs, 1 P1 (me) and 3 WPs on that flight. Probably not representative of average loads given it was a public holiday, but interesting nonetheless.

I have heard anecdotal evidence of MEL-SYD v.v. flights with up to 60 WPs on board.

The lounges were packed !

Correct, some of those peak flights can easily have over 60 just WP on board. Not including a handful of WP1 and CL
