Hope this is the right area.
ok- so here's my thinking and would love to know everyone's thoughts.
I've been reading about the Premium membership in Milepoint offer for $50 which will give me Hilton HHonors Gold status along with a lot of other useless things for Aussies.

Now next year hubby and I are taking the kids and their partners on a family holiday (generous yes - but we don't give Birthday or Xmas presents and after a few years it makes for a good holiday) We did this about 4 years ago and took them to Bali which everyone loved. And we get to have them spending time with us as well - win win I think
Anyway back on track.

We want to stay Los Angeles ( we all pay our own accommodation here) 3- 4 nights in las Vegas and 7 nights in Honolulu.
If I get Hilton Gold and stay in Hilton we get breakfast and every 5th night free.
I was looking at either the Hilton or Hyatt in Honolulu.
Then I see if I am Hilton Gold - I can price match and do the Hyatt Diamond Trial - so I could book the Hyatt in Waikiki instead of the Hilton
Also if I am Hyatt Diamond - I can match for M Life Platinum which will give me extras when we stay at any MGM Resort in Vegas and we were looking at staying at New York New York anyway

So does this make sense? Is it worth doing?? Looks like I would end up with a whole lot of gold and platinum :)
Can I do the Diamond trial with this holiday?

All thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated. I'd buy the Premium membership in Milepoint for both kids as well so there would be 3 of us with the Gold Status

Why are you asking on AFF?

Spam?

Guessing that asking on Milepoint may not necessarily elicit an unbiased response (kind of asking the converted in a way).

Also, I think most people will realise that there's not much actual "Milepoint" in this kind of decision; instead, it's more a tactical one about what is received as part of the package. So, in that sense, it's asking for an opinion more on buying "all that stuff".

Frankly, if you had no other way to get Hilton Gold (Virgin status, appropriate credit card), $50 sounds like little to pay to get that status straight away, besides all the rest of the (possibly useless) stuff.

Of course there are Hilton Gold fast tracks around, but they typically require 4 stays, and during those 4 stays you have no Gold status. Short-circuiting for $50 isn't so bad IMO.

FYI - I have never heard of milepoint until yesterday but I am a regular reader on this forum and have found the advice and information extremely helpful over the years.
Also this forum is Australian based whereas it is hard to find any comments on Milepoint from NON US.
I wanted to know what Aussies thought of this deal as I think really the only worthwhile thing is the Hilton Gold membership and therefore the flow on.

I am definitely NOT scamming anyone - just wondering if this would be worthwhile

The 20% Expert Fleet discount could be useful to a few who fly frequently.

I have been a milepoint member since it's inception but do not access it often.

Same as serfty, I also took the premium membership as I think it's a good deal.

Assume you are looking at redeeming Hilton points for your stay as I believe this only applies to award stays?

I bought the MilePoint Premium membership this year as my Hilton Gold was going to expire in Feb 2014. Very happy to pay the US$50 for the Hilton status alone, but have also used the WorldMate Gold upgrade as it's always useful to have automatic flight status updates and the like.

My only question was does the EF discount cover renewals i.e. a 12 months premium subscription on an existing account. My is currently lapsed, so that saving would be effectively instant.

My everyone with these discounts is that you get a voucher code which you enter into your payments window.

Then it is automatically taken into account at renewal time.

I have been doing this with the 15% discount for AFF gold status on annual renewal for several years.

For some reason one code I had only worked for new accounts on EF and the AFF one is described as 1st subscription only, so I figured they were mostly like that >< I was lucky last year I let it lapse for a month and they sent me a 20% code. May as well just use the AFF one then. Cheers.
