I am on a full Y ticket (YKFFHUQ) to Hong Kong and back (~1400 + tax each way).

The flight back now has a sale on Premium Economy for $550 + tax.

Tried the change flights button, however it does not give me the option to look in a different booking class.

Anyone know the best course of action? Its a work trip, I dont want to call the travel desk because it is $120 just to talk to someone (Best deal ever).

Can I contact Qantas directly? Will they just refund back onto the work credit card?

Only one way to find out :) Just give them a call. I'm pretty sure they'll refer you back to the Agent who booked it though unfortunately but you can only ask :)

If it was booked through an agent, they will have to do this for you.

Call QF and ask if the booking can be split to two separate PNR's. Not sure if it can be done for splitting two flights? I know it can be done to split of different passengers. If they can do that for you then you should be able to get them to make adjustments to the booking without talking to the agent... I was told that if you split off a passenger then it opens access to both PNR'S without the TA having to step in.. Haven't actually tried it.. But I did call up to enquire if that was the case and the lady said yes...

Best of luck!

Let us know how you go..

Cheers gogo.

If I am completely wrong?? Then someone please correct me..

Have you since spoken with our Reservations team about this? In most cases, if the original booking was made via an agent, they're responsible for any changes until travel has commenced. However it may be worth generally discussing your options with our team.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but surely its the travel agents job to let you know (pre-emptively!!), that there are cheaper fares, and "its all fixed Mr Dave!" Isnt that what they are paid for? Not for the traveller to tell them there are cheaper fares, and go through all the rigmoral (how do you spell that?!), that you are now?

That probably depends on the company's travel policy. Some companies prefer to pay for fully flexible fares and so the Y fare meets that policy. However, the cheaper R class Premium Economy fare may impose too many restrictions and hence not be compliant with the company's travel policy and hence not suggested by the travel agent.

And from the traveler's perspective, if they are happy to abide by the R class restrictions, then they may find the fare changed to an economy class fare with similar restrictions, such as N, O or Q class. So be careful that requesting a change to a more restrictive fare, albeit in a higher cabin, does not backfire due to company travel policies!
