Hi Guys

just a quick one.

I have just booked a Y ticket on Jetstar (with "package") and thought that as SG I might get a choice of seats, but it only offered the usual junk at the rear with chargeable options for the front or exit row.

Does anyone know if this is normal or should I be able to choose any seat?

Only flying JQ because QF do not operate the route, the fare is not cheap and by the time you add a bag and cc surcharge it is expensive for a short hop - end of whinge, sorry.

Cheers

What you experienced is normal. You have to pay more to sit towards the front. Yep, it sucks. Wait till you get on board, then it sucks even more.

In general there are no benefits to QF status when flying on Jetstar. The only thing you relaly get is the lounge access (where it exists) and bonus points. You don't get anything else like seat selection, baggage, etc etc.

What you see is, unfortunately, normal.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I suppose for the purpose of the exercise, QF and JS are 2 different airlines. LCC's don't do status by their very nature.

Thanks for the info guys

Fantastic, i have done a few trips over the last few years as non status and wondered if it got any better but apparently not.

If it was a Low Cost Airline I would be more accepting, but it isn't low cost, I have a SYD-BNE for $119 this includes bags, a meal, drinks, more points and usually better service. For $148 you get MCY-SYD 1 smaller bag, no meals, no drinks, less points and no seat selection - combined the fantastic service it is nearly worth the extra hour or so drive down to BNE to fly back QF

Anyway thanks again, grin and bear it

Cheers

Unless JQ is half the price of QF, it's often not worth it. I commute weekly (sometimes twice weekly) from SYD-BNE and when you can get a cheap JQ (usually a Tiger price match) then it's worth it. For instance, last Friday the 10am-ish SYD-BNE on JQ was $65 v's $200 on QF, so it's worth the saving. But at regular fares of $89 v $119, then JQ is no competition. You'll notice the JQ flights are generally filled with... lets say "less frequent traveller" types who just book JQ because they assume it's cheaper.

Not too different to QF international, who also charge everyone but (I think) CL's & P1's for exit rows (although do allow some status to allocate front rows).

While that's true, I think there's room for improvement in this space that wouldn't affect the bottom line very much and might actually bring some loyalty back (thus taking away from a competitor)!

I'm not talking exit rows and front of the plane things, but some little concessions would go a long way towards keeping everyone within "the group". But then, what would I know :p

Unless you are on 3K. Their services usually would give QF a run for its money.

Indeed and I get access to the First Lounge in HK too - quite hysterical given to board the flight I have to schlep down to the bus gates....

You don't earn any bonus points on JQ, base points are earned only if a package is purchased, but no bonus points for status.

Not correct, minimum points and status bonus are earnt on all ELIGIBLE JQ/3K/VF flights

Disagree, they are not earned on all flights, only on eligible flights , ie/ when you purchase them.

Qantas Frequent Flyer members are eligible to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points
and Status credits when travelling on Starter Plus, Starter Max or Business Max
bundle fares with Jetstar Airways (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) and Valuair (VF).

Qantas Frequent Flyer Points | Jetstar

Edit - no bonus points are earned due to QFF status.

Travel on 3K under a plus bundle, and you basically get what you get on QF (points, status credits, advance seat selection, meal, drink), probably main difference is no television screen(no big deal these days), and you can't access "preferred" seating.

Yes they are. Status bonus applies to eligible Jetstar fares.
9.5.2 A Status bonus will be applied for Eligible Flights with a Qantas (QF), Jetstar Airlines (JQ, 3K and VF), American Airlines[SUP]®[/SUP] (AA) or British Airways (BA) flight number. For travel on eligible Qantas (QF) and Jetstar (JQ) flights, the Status bonus for Silver Members will be 50% of the Base Rate, 75% for Gold Members and 100% for Platinum Members.

Here is a complimentary 3K meal. Meals are free on some flights. Not too shabby compared withIMG_1700.jpg QF domestic.

Oops, missed that as the flights I do are domestic and even with the status bonus, I only end up with the minimum 1000 points. Regardless, these points are only earned because an extra 'package' has been purchased, not all JQ flights earn them.

That looks pretty good to me. Certain the presentation is much better and the contents (with bread roll, salad and dessert) is more substantial than the meals that I had on long-haul JQ flights.

In a nutshell, all flights with plus/max bundles with JQ/3K/VF codes will earn points and status exactly as if they were on QF.
