PR Australia- USA or Canada return $830 to $980

Apparently PR has an 'anniversary sale' (airline was founded in 1941). It is departing Australia (at least MEL, but probably SYD, BNE, CNS and DRW as well) via MNL to USA (LAX, SFO, YVR and perhaps JFK) between 1 September and 30 November 2017, 30 day ticket, A$830 to $980 return.

North Suburban Travel, Brunswick West in Melbourne has this sale on to 31 March 2017. 03 9384 1844.

It's a good price. Most PR flights ex MNL to the USA are B773s; a minority are A343s. The airline also flies CEB - LAX daily (A343 I think) but presumably this is not a possible routing.

It strikes me as a very good price. Not sure if stopovers in MNL to visit great beaches are allowed.

Looked at J Mel to BKK and on Sunday departures and Tuesday return the flights only have 3 hr plus stop over BUT other days seem to have at least 30 hr on one leg. Very cheap at a tad less than AUS1200 in business . Not sure about plane or punctuality. Was looking October and November as we will be away about a month. Anyone any feed back on Plane Always Late, Phillipine Airlines? Better half cant walk distances and not sure about level of service and transit airport facilities. thanks

I've flown PA Oz-Sino number of times - would readily do it again if stars aligned - BUT - you need to be very flexible because with PR if there is the remotest possibilty things might go wrong then you can be assured they will. Transit in MNL the biggest nightmare of all time - not for the faint hearted indeed. IMHO of course and as always YMMV - but I do love a challenge - sometimes.

So lucky last time transiting from int. to dom. in MNL a friend (who's private island we were going to off Davao) supplied a guy from his office in Manila to guide us through the hell hole terminal maze from one to another, but if all Int. should be OK. We did this dom. leg in Y never again.

With PR, transiting from international to domestic is pretty easy: outside the terminal, you just take the lift up to departures, and go through security. I've not had hassles: it is easier and quicker than in Oz, which also goes for Philippines immigration and customs. By comparison, MEL customs is slow and painful. I've always just walked through in Philippines, a bit like Singapore Changi.

PR ex and to Australia seems to be punctual: sure, the occasional hiccup but it's rare for flights to be cancelled. That may not have been the case 20 years ago, so things on that front have improved.

Walking distance from Int to Dom at Manila Terminal 2 is all up probably 400 metres: the longest bit is off the international arrival down some long corridor, but as always one can request a wheelchair if this presents difficulties. Best to have the wheelchair requirement noted on your PNR.

I like the PR J class on its A330s (the MEL route) but this is to be replaced this year sometime with allegedly improved lie-flat beds. There's a photo on the Internet somewhere.

J class on the A343s used on most flights to and from SYD is old fashioned recliner seating but with what looks to be a generous pitch. In a few months the A343s will no longer be used to or from Oz. Anyone travelling in October to or from SYD or MEL on PR should have the changed, better A330s.
