Potential for VIA rail to return Calgary - Banff - Lake Louise
I have just discovered an article from CBC, Canada which reports that a feasibility study is currently been undertaken for VIA rail ( The Canadian rail service) to return on the Calgary - Canmore - Banff - Lake Louise Sector.
I for one would love to see VIA rail make a return on this route , as having previously lived in Banff myself, access to Calgary was quite tricky if one did not own a car, and relying on Greyhound or Brewster bus services. Tourists themselves were quite dumbfounded at the lack of public transport options I recall.
Additionally , the number of international tourists that I meet during my time that suggested that the Rocky Mountaineer ( seasonal tourist train between Vancouver & Calgary) was extremely expensive and "feel below expectations".
This article, hopefully gives tourists and locals alike some hope of increased transport links to the spectacular Canadian Rocky Mountains and Calgary.
