Just noticed this pop up on Boarding Area:
(can't post links with my post count)

At a cost of only about $1500 USD in J this is incredibly cheap, even by American standards. I noticed one poster mention that you could get the deals out of Honolulu too.
So potentially you could fly JQ to HNL (say $950RT), and then HNL through to Europe for $1500 USD (maybe $1700 AUD) in business. Chuck in the fact that you can stopover in Hawaii and it's not a bad deal.
At a combined cost of about $2700, that's roughly what you'd be paying for Emirates Y during peak travel to EU anyhow at this point.

Just tried playing with some dates for mid July on ITA matrix from HNL to FCO, and got a price of only $1487 USD. AC to YVR, to YYZ, to FCO.
Things I noticed in the fare rules:
# No stopovers permitted (though you could potentially book something with up to 24 hours layover, as I saw on one coming back through YVR.
# Huge change penalty fee
# Non refundable

Could be an error, so anyone booking to Europe at this late stage, might be a good one!

Followup:
Looks like it's for certain *A Airlines, like AC, LH, UA.
The fares are valid for travel between June 27 and August 30, 2014.
Most cities in Europe seem to be included by YMMV.

Sri Lankan is offering sub $2000 fares in J to Europe from SIN/BKK. Air India is offering US1500 ex SIN to Europe, $1800 to London. Air india is valid peak season.

Combined with a cheap (or award) ticket to SIN makes for a similar trip to the one you mention (though should be possible to fly to Paris mixed class for the region of AUD2400)

Lots of deals out there.
