Starwood took over Design hotels a little while ago.About a month ago they announced that 6 were joining the SPG program and that the expected 40 to join by mid 2016.
Today doing the Design hotel Introduction competition the picture was of the Old Clare hotel Chippendale. This should mean it is likely to be in the 40.Unfortunately that will be just when Marriott takes over.

A followup on this: just noticed when looking for a hotel today via SPG that the Old Clare is now SPG-eligible. Says "as of March 30" on the site. Good to know!

Note that you don't get all the benefits of SPG status with the Design Hotels: you get points, eligible nights, the 'bonus gift' (points only), but you don't get upgrades etc.
