Good morning,

After decades treating LAX exclusively as a point of transfer to the more pleasant parts of North America, we’re looking to spend two or three days nearby before returning to Sydney.

Any tips on beach/pool/resort-type places within an hour or so of LAX?

This will be in July.

HHonors Diamond so Hilton places are attractive, but we’re flexible.

It’s obviously a crowded part of the world, but we’re just looking for some peace and quiet near the end of a long multi-week trip.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your advice.

Kind regards,

SBD

A Hilton option at Oxnard / Ventura.

Oxnard Hotels - Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Hotel & Resort

It's on the beach (water is usually freezing), but has a pool. Big suite rooms with two bathrooms. Used to go there a bit but not for quite a while. The restaurant wasn't bad but breakfast (complementary) was typical US chain stuff - so HH Diamond doesn't add much on the eating side, but could give you an Ocean front / view room upgrade.

There's some huge premium outlet shopping nearby plus it's not far to go to Santa Barbara and the wine area (Santa Ynez).
