Yes meclazine was my go-to as well. A kind AFFer brought me some from the USA. My second ever cruise was SilverSea to Antarctica and we had the Drake Strait one way on the return which I was really dreading. He took one each evening for 2 days prior to boarding then one each evening before bed. No sickness at all
Similar to your friend, I took a tablet any night that the seas were said to get a bit high. It did a bit one night - if you walked in the corridor you were pushed side to side and really had to hang onto the handrail but I was fine. At the end, we actually delayed crossing the Drake Strait because of forecast high seas but couldn’t delay totally so again the crossing was a bit rough but again I was fine.
Unfortunately, I forgot to buy some when I was last in the USA so I’m out. I tried to order it via the Internet but for one reason or another it couldn’t be sent.
PS I have gone the vom on two occasions on the sea so I know I am not immune.
