Hi all,

I have over 25000 Amex points which can be transferred to Krisflyer. A family member of mine (wife's grandmother) is thinking of flying SIN-PER-SIN soon and will book an economy (probably discount economy) ticket. Would it be possible for me to 'pay' for an upgrade for her using my Amex points?

As far as I know, I can only transfer my Amex points to my Krisflyer account under my name. From there, is it possible to upgrade her? She travels semi regularly, is quite elderly (needs assistance) and has never traveled J before so it would be a good present for her. She'll also be your best travel companion since she won't do anything besides sleep and eat throughout the flight :p

Thanks all!

It is possible, however not from a discounted economy ticket. I have just done this for my wife.

You transfer AMEX points to your krisflyer account. and then call up the Krisflyer Australia contact number. It is meant to be possible to do it via the website by logging in to your account and searching the booking code. However I could never get it to work for me. When I told the call centre that they gave me the 15% discount anyway.

There are a couple things to note though. As I said it cant be a discounted ticket, it has to be the full flexi. So whether it is worth that from a cost basis you will have to check.

Your 25000 points will only be enough to upgrade one leg of the journey and even then only if a saver award fare is available (cost is 25000 1 way -15% online discount = 21250). The comment thought is that if you can search an available saver award flight through the website, then you should be able to get a saver upgrade. That being said when I did it recently all the flights my wife was on, were listed as waitlisted for awards, but I got her booked in on a saver upgrade anyway.

I hope that makes sense, but if you want me to clarify let me know.

As Pozza says, do check with SQ if the ticket is upgradeable before you transfer any miles to KF.

Only economy Flexi fare is eligible for point for upgrade to J
Which is usually full fare Y
