Looks like I mucked up my calculations when transferring from Citi, and I'm now a few hundred points short of the 2 J MEL-SYD tickets I plan to buy.

What are my options here - transferring more from Citi is problematic since there's a minimum transfer amount.

Points plus pay? What kind of value would I get from that? Buying more points from Va?

The available options are going to be heavily influenced by how much time is available. Do you need the extra points this week, next week, in a month...
If time is your enemy (i.e. you only have a few days), then paying the piper may well be your only viable (and reliable) option.

Could transfer more than you need and either warehouse in VA (no expiry) or transfer to SQ (losing some points along the way)
New Credit card, eStore, utilities etc: too long
Digital Mailbox: points arrive quickly but the juicy bonus offers are over I think
Not sure how quickly Global Wallet or BP points take to come through
Could buy SPG points and transfer but not likely to be cheap even with current SPG offer and same problem of minimum transfer amounts
Presume no Amex MR point options

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

If you have SQ points your not using you could transfer? min is 5000 though

Otherwise any 'family' members can transfer you some of their VA points.
The min transfer is 5000, BUT if you transfer 5000+ the points your need (100 odd) for total 5100 or whatever then u can transfer the original 5000 back to them with no point penalties

That's, alas, not what Points plus Pay provides.

To compete with Qantas Frequent Flyer, Velocity reward seats can be bought through either points or a combination of points and currency. That said, you're limited to deciding whether to pay for taxes via points or currency - there's no actual top-up option.

Given the timeframe, the Velocity eStore and eOpinions definitely aren't an option, but there is hope.

Figure out which of your friends is the most stingy/biggest tight-cough and offer to help them fill up their car. Chances are that, even though they're a tight-cough, they drive something that has a massive fuel tank that requires several tanker-loads of fuel to go buy VB from the nearest drive-through bottle shop.

Take the car to the nearest BP and swipe your Velocity card at payment, earning 2 points per litre of fuel. Should their car have required less than 50 litres of fuel to fill, buy yourself some overpriced soft drinks/coughographic magazines/dead flowers (for apologetic/forgetful partners) and get an additional 2 Velocity points per dollar spent.

In my experience points earned on BP transactions are credited in 24 hours. This holds true even for transactions on non-weekdays.

Hope this helps. :-)

BP points come through in 2 days in my experience, go for a long drive or offer to fill up friends and family cars haha
