Not sure if anyone else has seen this with award bookings. I had mrs booked Y from Syd to BKK and then F from BKK to LHR. As the date came closer more award seats were released and I could get her in F from SYD to BKK. The points required was the same????

It turns out that QF bills the points on the highest class travelled for the whole trip. I'm glad that I know this now!

Matt.

Yep, one of the sneaky things about Qantas awards. Although, Qantas awards are relatively flexible in that you can book one way tickets etc without a real penalty (compared to other schemes).

Mrs in F = Happy i am sure :)
I also noticed this some time ago and thought i was going crazy and there computers were broken till i rang them and they let me know why. (in my case a J and Y fare, all i did was book 2 x one way)

How many people end up making these type of higher class award bookings where part of the trip is in economy and get charged the points for a higher class booking but never find out they have been charged more points?

In some situations it is better to book part of the award flight in economy and the rest in the desired higher class.

IME, this has always been the case (at least since 1994).

It was a real pain during the reign of those versions of QFF where all award flight bookings were on a "Round Trip" basis. :-|

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
