Hi all,

Before I phone VFF, I just wanted to find out if I should have earned points on my Complimentary Upgrade flight that I took earlier this month. I got the J Status Credits for the flight, but no actual points. Which I wouldn't mind as much if I had only bought a saver fare, but having to get the Flexi fare to use the upgrade was more then I would have spent normally.

Thanks heaps!
Phillippe

You should have got points. But be prepared for them to drop the Status credits back to flexi level earning.

Are you really suggesting that one might see 40 SCs credited and then a deduction of -20 ? That would be a rude shock. I can confirm that of three comp upgrades on SYD-MELs I've received 40 plus what would be a normal point load.

Why?

If booked in Z class then SC earn is as for Business - this is in the T&C's of the promotion.

As indicated by Ausbt, Points should indeed be earned. They are based on the original fare payment and OP's status.

Notwithstanding any one off promotions that might be running, the normal situation is that points and status credits are earning as per the base fare not the upgraded fare. This has clearly not happened in the OPs case. Hence the lack of points. I simply said "be prepared" because human intervention to add the points might also see a human decide that business status credits should not be granted despite the T&Cs. This is called the randomness for human interpretation. I thought it best for the OP to be prepared because often when I get hit with things that I didn't consider I'm too slow to disagree and point out things like T&Cs of promotions.

Serfty I fixed your post. I also indicated that points should indeed be earned.

Notwithstanding ...
Fair enough, however your post left it open for misinterpretation, although I now get where you were coming from.

Here, I fixed that post for you:
You should have got points. But be prepared for them to incorrectly try to drop the Status credits back to flexi level earning, even though that would be in conflict with the T&C of the promotion.

I guess I leave out words when posting at midnight to try to quickly get across the main point that points should have been credited.

As a data point, this happened to me on a flight either to or from DRW earlier in the year - I received J SCs on a comp-upgraded flexi fare, but no points.

I messaged the VFF rep to chase the points and noted that I understood if the SCs were reduced (I have more need for points than SCs).

I got a prompt reply that (ambiguously) acknowledged the issue & confusion with the SCs on upgrades and that the points would be credited, which they duly were 48ish hrs later. SCs were untouched.

Similar thing just happened to me. I had a couple of flights in May that I upgraded to J just to top up the status credits. I noticed that I was only given J status credits and no points.

It took a few attempts to get someone at VA to get back to me, but finally today I had an email asking me to call them as they weren't able to reach me by phone. I did have several calls from a 'private' number, which I generally ignore.

Anyway, now I am being told that I was wrongly credited the J status credits and they are going to reduce them by half! I did several upgrades earlier in the year that all credited with J status points and Flexi points. I double checked and the upgrades were all booked in Z class. I know that it's not a big deal, but I spend enough time (and money) sitting on their airplanes and I do find the lack of consistency frustrating.

I was just wondering if anyone knew the best way to escalate this. FWIW - I am Platinum.

Take it up with the VA representative here on this forum: Ask Velocity Frequent Flyer

It has been confirmed that Business SC should be earned, see here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....flight-upgrades-and-status-credits-50655.html

Here's the T&C's of the promotion: Earn Status Credits on Reward Seats Terms and Conditions| Velocity Frequent Flyer

Alos:
The terms and conditions of the promotion state that all Z class tickets starting with the ticker number 795* will earn business class status credits until 30 june. As almost ALL business reward ticket and business upgrade ticket meet these terms and conditions, they SHOULD be eligible for the bonus status credits as per the promotion T+C's.

Velocity figured this out some time ago and started using the 18.1.5 clause in the standard T+C's which states that upgraded tickets will earn at the original class. Personally, Velocity tried to do this for me however I stood my ground stating very clearly that I was eligible under the promotion terms and conditions.

I was awarded the status credits after the case was reviewed by a Velocity manager.
