Points Count [How many do you have?]

I started this thread early last year and have grown my points balance to just over 2million now. What is the view of the brains trust on the future value of Qantas points. Assuming schedules return to normal in the next 18months or so(a big If I know), do points become worth more as fares rise due to lower pax on flights? Or will Qantas just deflate them by requiring more for flight redemptions?

Our point balance will be increasing significantly soon due to cancelled trips. Don't know if we should hold onto them or buy toasters

I donā€™t think QF will deflate them in this environment.

However, balances will be balooning due to credit cards and no flights to burn existing points.

I expect the first people to return to the skies will be frequent flyers who will make award space in premium cabins scarce. I reckon economy awards (if thats your thing) will be plentiful.

My balance has been slowly growing. I have plenty of points but currently cannot use them the way I want to use them.

We havenā€™t stopped so our points and miles have grown to alarming levels seeing we pay lots of bills on credit cards. We feel certain our two sons will love using them if we canā€™t if this pandemic takes time to fix.

Our points balance remain around 2.8 million. They aren't growing as quickly as they once were due to lack of spend and I did manage to spend 500k in 2020 before shutdown happened. I'm not even considering spending them on any shopping portals. It's amazing how quickly my mood has changed before CV and travel suspension. Previously I used to eagerly update my points spreadsheet now I'm firmly in the camp can barely be bothered doing so.

Spent >1m on VA's online store (I didn't truly think they'd go under taking points with them, but it was a hedge given I had 3m VFF pts at the time). Still got around 3.6m SQ and 2m QF sitting around with no way to use any time soon.

Have stopped paying the tax man using CCs (just don't see the value for my personal circumstances any more) otherwise would probably have an 8-figure MR balance by now. That's a lotta potentially-devaluable assets!

For those of you who have large balances, just make sure you keep an eagle's eye or hawk's eye on transactions, and if you see something fishy, or you get a fishy email or sms, to contact QFF ASAP.
All it takes is for someone to port your phone number, and it starts from there.
And while we abhor 2fa, or say we do, this at least gives a measure of loss of points via fraud/scam.
My balance is measly 20k.

Oz telco's have effectively had zero authentication required (DOB does not equal authentication) when it comes to porting for, well, forever it seems. Porting issues are documented 10+ years back. That said, the ACMA has finally implemented (April) actual authentication that telco's must take when porting. I recently ported and the measures listed in the new rules were applied from the existing telco so it was secure.

Your point is a good one however. Hopefully these changes stop this issue that the telco's and ACMA didn't give a damn about for over a decade.

O/T, family friend had their Optus number ported out of their name a few years ago, not sure, how the culprits pulled it off, didn't want to be too nosy, but seeing that there are some people here in Aust who use their mobile phone numbers to scam, ie, the NAB fake "your account has been locked" sms, so even here in Aust, there is the propensity for some to try or succeed in scamming others.
My QFF points right now are only increasing (slowly, every few months) by 1000 lots via WWR.
Last QF flight was AKL - BNE in Dec last year, before covid started in earnest.
Right now though, not personally flying, but I have noticed more red tailed flights coming in ADL in the past few days.
Will probably fly QFF more once I can get to PER, **(O/T) not sure what the plans Bain has for the oppostion airline**.
Will probably buy a comfort seat as a "celebratory" gift to start the QFF SC haul running again.

I have a reasonably large qantas balance.. I check my account very often.. just in case of issues..

Buy something from one of the Qantas on line vendors (every week?). Wait 3 months. Then you need to check every day to find out when the points actually credit.... :)o_O

Actually rather simple wandering

I've got about 480k - more than double what it would if it weren't for 2 cancelled J awards for a Europe trip this year. It is slowly tricking up every week through Insurance, the fitness app but the biggest contributor this year was the ANZ PointsHacks offer I took advantage of back in March

My balance is nearly enough for 3 return trips but can't book them with the likelihood that borders will remain closed so my balance is continuing to go up.

Iā€™ve tried to use our points for upgrades ...QF may as well have an auto reply that says ā€œ not a snowballā€™s chance in hellā€.

Want to use points + pay? The most rediculous amount of points are required such as SYDNEY return to the Gold Coast in cattle class !!

I donā€™t want anything from their damned on line shop so they accumulate slowly ... they used to be worth something ... but now they are not.

My experience on domestic has been the opposite, maybe we have been lucky and don't travel at peak demand times but we buy Y apply for an upgrade and get it 80/90 % of the time

And if you have a subscription to ExpertFlyer (or know somebody who does), that will be 100% of the time - immediately. Obviously some degree of flexibility is required.
