Hello,
I have realised that I will fly enough in a twelve month period to get Platinum with one airline or Gold on both Virgin and Qantas. This has started me thinking, are the benefits from going from Gold to Platinum with Virgin, (my most frequent airline) superior to hedging my bets and being Gold with both airlines, ie complimentary access to lounge and priority seating with both etc.

I guess I'm trying to work out the value from the new Virgin Platinum to ascertain whether the improvements in the offering from Gold to Platinum outweighs the ability to have Gold on both as approximately 1000 status credits can get you either Platinum on one or Gold on two.

I prefer Virgin personally so I hope the new benefits make it worth me being exclusive as opposed to splitting my travel down the middle. Any thoughts from the well travelled readers would be appreciated.

I currently have lounge access to both, but the company pays for the Qantas, and personally I find the Virgin lounge much better. Thanks

If you are QF WP then do the VA status match to VA WP and then decide which airline you will buy your future flights with.

This is a question I've been toying with as well. As I see it, DJ still (at the moment) struggle with O/S partnerships and QF/OW may prove better options if you fly int. and the QF gold might well be worth it then (although I haven't looked to see just how much QF Gold would provide).

QF is 700 SCs to attain gold and 600 to maintain, so I'm assuming you mean 1000 SCs to maintain rather than attain (400-DJ, 600-QF).

I've been helped along in my decisions pretty much by QF. The facts that originally pushed me toward being a DJ loyalist, still remain. Those being QF don't fly to some of my most regular ports, which leaves me back on JQ earning nothing (mostly) and putting up with attitudes less attuned to a business flyer. QF is also dearer on fares (mostly) and a lot of the latest DJ changes, really do value add to my flying. The final nail in the coffin for me revisiting QF just now, is my QFF anniversay date. July next year, which won't give me enough time to accrue gold with QF anyway (silver I'd get) so I've decided to continue my loyalty (maybe not the most accurate choice of words ) with DJ until at least then, and review DJ's performance (and price structure) at that time.

If most of your flying is domestic and you don't mind either airline then I would go with Gold in both.

If on the other hand you do a lot of international travel then Platinum and being part of an alliance comes in very handy.
