Platinum comp PE upgrades on long haul savers fares

Any WP / SG had any luck with comp Y+ upgrades on long haul saver fares at checkin or boarding? I heard of lots of folks getting comp upgrades on flexi. I'm flying to LAX soon on savers and wondering if i should bid for upgrade to Y+ or take my chances. $500 min bid for Y+ seems a bit rich :shock:

SG travelling with my VA Red daughter, June last year on VA29 to AUH. I was on Saver Fare, daughter Reward Fare. We were delighted to be upgraded to Premium Economy, called over loud speaker prior to boarding with several others. I thought at the time too many empty PE seats may not be a good look! I will be travelling on VA29 again in January with my husband who will also be SG so have decided we will take our chances, cross fingers and hope if there are enough empty seats our continued loyalty will be rewarded!

Platinum here, never been comped on a saver fare from economy to premium. Have been comped on Flexi to premium a few times and premium saver to business once.

Currently sitting in PE on VA1 in Sydney, delayed with an "engineering issue". Doh!

Plat, had a PE Flexi and got comped to J last January. Have noticed that PE has been quiet on VA, even when Y full and J full.

Quiet today, Y full and J looks pretty full. PE is probably a bit over 50% (still sitting on the plane waiting at the gate in Sydney).

Platinum here, and do the LAX run a couple of times each year on Saver ticket (BFOD policy for work). Haven't been comped yet on any VA international flight

I've been comped a few times, but it was always when Y or W was oversold. I've not known them to opup simply out of the generosity of their heart...

Comped once from saver to Y+, personally don't think the bid is worth it.
