Plane turns around after mom onboard realizes she left her baby in the terminal

Twitter user Fahad M. Al Barrak, who shared the original audio of the incident, said the baby had been left with its sister, who boarded the wrong bus at the terminal.

When the mother realized the pair hadn’t made the flight, she insisted the plane turn round, Al Barrak said.
Ah, so that makes more sense but I’m surprised in those circumstances they didn’t try contacting the sister before returning.

Yeah makes a bit more sense - because surely staff or another passenger would have seen a baby on its own. But agree, should have tried contacting the sister. Or maybe they did and the mother didn't realise as they weren't sitting together on the plane until it was too late?

My guess is mum was sitting up the front, kids down the back so mum didn't realise until after seat belt sign was off and kids didn't visit her.

If the infant was ticketed then the passenger count would've been wrong. This should've been cause further investigation.

Another way to prevent this occurring would a requirement for both BPs to be presented together. E.g. Mother's BP must be presented with baby's BP. A warning beep to remind the gate agent to check for an accompanying child/parent would have prevented this incident.

I wonder if staff have/will be reprimanded for their failures to ensure on board passengers matched the list?

Of course and luggage to be offloaded as well. Somethings still not right.

Can I be a conspiracy theorist and say she was going to abandon the baby then changed her mind?

Im trying to find the link but something I read yesterday, I got the impression the baby was with someone who got stuck in traffic on the way to the airport - thus missed the flight/didnt check in.

Cant find the link now but if true, that could explain the manifest/no luggage offloaded ect.

But why would you board a plane when your child was supposed to be coming with family and hadn’t shown up yet? In the days of mobiles?

After reading the link, I have only one conclusion for the media headline: Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
