I thought it might be good to have a thread for pics/qns of interesting a/c at BNE (since we dont get the plethora of a/c that go thru SYD or MEL).

#1. Why were two QF 744s parked at BNE on Thursday? I thought the only 744 was to/from LAX (ie. arr in am, depart around midday?)

Where does/was the other 744 operating to?

See pic here:

#2 - Whose is the A318 (at least, it looked like a 318 - shorter but with the A320 wings - presume it is someone's bizjet) that was parked on the hardsand where the strategic 330 usually parks. As of Sun 28/2? It had blue/green striping down the side and tail but no naming....

The A318 is doing dirty deeds done dirt cheap - AKA its the ACDC preferred mode of transport, its a Comlux plane 9H-AFL ex Malta.

QF have been running some charters/repositioning LAX flights: VH-OJU which is in the revised Qantas livery has been into Brisbane a bit lately operating QF6015/15 from SYD-BNE-LAX on the 18th, QF16/15 from LAX-BNE-LAX on the 20th and QF16/6016 from LAX-BNE-SYD on the 22nd.

I might add the Emirates 744 is due back in the next day or so with a load of low mileage non street legal one owner cars - the V8's.

Thanks for ths info. I was excited to see a 318 (really like them and there arent that any around, especially is Aus).

Question: would the SYD-BNE and BNE-SYD sectors be bookable? (Hello, F lounge run....)

Also, reason for repositioning? - I thought they cycled them at LAX or AKL?

Re: EK 744s - are you sure it'll be a 744 - there were two EK 777s parked there a couple of weeks ago (V8s off to AUH). Although externally - one appeared to be a freighter (no windows), the other a pax a/c with windows (unless it had been converted to freight).

Yep, the EK 744 will be making only its second ever visit, the V8s went out on a Atlas 744 , the EK 777s were there because one had an engine issue (read big leak) inbound and the other one had to fly a spare out, unlike a 747 there is no spare engine mount on the wings or provision for one.

I am not sure why the extra QF flights were needed, I noticed a spare 744 at the freight apron Thursday afternoon as well, unless it was waiting for pax from the Queen Mary for a charter back home, she was in Airlie overnight, pervious Cunard charters were concords, those were the days :(

BTW the QFflights were not on the BNE timetables, so I doubt they would have had bookable legs, more than likely fixing a stranded a/c issue.

Are you sure? Could it have been a QF A330?

Yep, 777-300ER ECK needed an engine change owing to unacceptable oil consumption rate inbound from SIN, a 777-200 flew the core and fan (split) along with engineers with logisitics support from CX, DJ were asked to help with hanger etc but it was then realised the taxiway is not rated for a 777 leading to DJ's hanger. The change was done outside in the usual perfect QLD weather

EK also had an A340 go US the same week at BNE!

My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek, Should have used . My point was that anything "broken" is usually a QF A330 :mrgreen:

BNE is the A330 maintenance base for QF now

I noted a QF 744 departing BNE (I presume to LAX as it was low in the departure profile) leaving ~ 1900 last night - was there a major delay for some reason? Also the issues earlier inthe week with the LAX flight too (pax offloaded on Good Friday). Looked impressive (and loud!) from my place taking off into the fading light....

Also, has anyone else noted a slight shift in the flight paths (departure) to the south - I seem to notice all weekend the a/c seem 1. louder from my place and 2. further west on departure before circling to the north. The southbound flights seem to be continuing to track the same more easterly departure path. It just seemed the flights were noisier than i've noted previously, and looking seemed to be closer to my house (implying further west than usual - perhaps a few hundred metres or so)? be interested if those living nearby to BNE had noticed anything different over easter (those at home anyway!)

Don't know about BNE but you can stand on the beach at Alex Headland on the Sunshine Coast and watch the A/C fly right over your head into MCY, makes a hell of a noise!, I hav seen a couple of Q400's heading up the coast from time to time when I have been up there as well

Driving past today, where Strategic have their A330 and A320 usually parked, was a plain white (as in, no markings at all) A340.

Any idea who owns this one? Have Strategic acquired an A340? It was too dark to catch a registration on the tail unfortunately.

On that note who/what are Strategic?

I had this question also.

Dual French/Australian AOC holder, do a lot of charters with the ADF, they also bought Ozjet and along with it the operations to Derby and Bali.

I saw a billboard on the way to PER domestic the other day and wondered who they were. They seem quite cheap.

Does this mean the 3 OzJet planes that have been sitting at PER airport for months will finally move?

Strategic have no interest in the Ozjet aircraft, they were past their use by date when Paul Stodart sold them, just the crew, routes etc.

They are advertising a lot of PER-DPS on radio at the moment.

As for the Ozjet 732's, one of them (according to jetspotters) completed a ~6 minute flight PER-JAD, and will be used as a teaching model for one of the local TAFE's. It was very hush hush over here.
