Plane lands at wrong airport

An easy mistake to make with so many controls to monitor and Air Traffic Control busy with important things....

Ryan air beats that, a flight to Paris misses it by about 50 miles!

I recall QF nearly doing this at Rockhampton a few years ago - mistook the Bruce Hwy for the runway.

That was more than a few years ago. Pretty sure it was Australian many moons ago.

There was one at ROK a number of years ago. Lined up with Musgrave St (no doubt before it was lines with fast food outlets... couldn't miss it now)

My dad was an Air Traffic Controller at Tullamarine and Essendon before that, before he retired - he tells me it happens quite often. Pilots line up to approach at Essendon or Moorabin - he was on duty one time when a plane was set to land at Adelaide instead of Melbourne.

"This is your captain speaking, contrary to previous announcement we are not about to land - we'll try again in another hour or so..."
