Pics of Virgin Australia's 'The Club' (SYD and BNE)

I know the guy who took the photo! I might give him a bell and see if he has anymore....

What I meant was that this design seems really staid and out of character with the whole brand. Given the echoes of the Clubhouse with its name I expected something much more along those lines. A bit more Bond-esque I suppose. I didn't expect leather wingback chairs in chocolate brown thats for sure. But it hardly matters what I think since its unlikely I'll ever be confonted with its interior.

Just drifting way off topic as usual, but the chairmans lounge floor design is the same pattern as the bulkhead in the recently released 767 update photos

Full tweet also less than +ve.
Rude & disappointing treatment at Virgin's SYD lounge/the club tonight @VirginAustralia, esp as plat ff!

Somebody is kidding himself, you don't get into The Club just because you're Platinum any more than Qantas Platinum gets you into the Chairman's lounge!

Wow, is that really the best that Virgin and John Borghetti can manage? The 'normal' MEL and BNE lounges look a lot better!!!

All its really missing is the girls in bunny outfits offering cigars and cigarettes..

Given that the only people likely to grace the interior of the Club are parliamentarians, very senior public servants, high level corporate types, and the occasional celebrity / VIP - surely an environment that is really staid and out of touch is somewhat appropriate? ;)

When I first saw that photo, I immediately thought of Sir Humphrey Appleby and the other top dog public servant sitting in their club, gently caressing their classes of cognac, whilst deciding who was going to be the next Prime Minister!

Aside from the awful decor, the VA club has one thing over the CL......high ceilings! QF can't do anything about that and I'm absolutely amazed VA designers haven't capitalised on it! Anyone can make an interior look good, but not everyone can achieve high ceilings in an airport!

I'm also concerned with the 'boys club' asthetic. Where are the pastels? Where is the nod to our Chairwomen? Patriarchy rules, as usual.

why would they need pastels in order to recognise female invitees? it's an aesthetic, it's not necessarily gendered! personally, the whole "softer colours for the softer gender" approach really bugs me (sorry, just getting up on my post-feminist high horse for a moment ;))

give me a beautifully fitted out ladies bathroom with great lighting, quality amenities (a la the melbourne dj lounge - i do love that bathroom!), and thoughtful details throughout the lounge to show the designers have considered the needs of various types of visitors, and this aspiring chairwoman-to-be would be very happy. much more so than if there were pink cushions thrown about!

Yes, all very fair points indeed, seems I've been caught doing a nice line in patriarchy myself. Actually I was thinking unisex bathrooms could make things interesting! :D

I had much the same mental image myself :)

What is it with the new style of Virgin lounges and their inability to make things look neat and tidy as far as chair positioning goes? The Melb lounge is all over the shop in the raised area and seems to have way more chairs than should really be there (e.g. with a bag its hard to get in and out).. This looks similar, but with bigger chairs.. I'm not that OCD but the clean lines of the F and J lounges work better for me :p

Over the last year I've managed to nail the fine art of navigating the "balcony" without banging into others, I agree, it can be a bit crowded, but I like the oversized chairs.
