Philippines Airlines feedback - transiting through Manila

Dear community,

I see lots of feedback online about flying Philippines Airlines and "transiting" in Manila.

Realistically, how bad is this process? In our case we will fly into Manila from Brisbane and then fly onto Hong Kong the next day.

I assume as one ticket they will check luggage all the way to Hong Kong and issue both boarding passes at Brisbane, so all we will need to do is stay overnight in a hotel and the re-enter the terminal?
