What is it with Perth. The rates are extortion!

I have status with HH and IHG but checking both, they seem ridiculous.

We need accom. for 2A, 2C, 30 Apr for 2 nites.

Hilton can't do 4 in a room so want $315 x 4.......$1260 for an old hotel with no exec lounge . I don't think so.

Four points is OK but as I'm not a SPG it offers no great enticement.

Holiday Inn is a $1000, which I'm guessing is not worth it.

Crowne P is circa $800 which is about the same as Four Points so perhaps CP has the edge as I'm IHG Plat.

Hyatt is just under $1000,

Rydges about $600,

Best Western $730

Mercure @ $400

Am I expecting too much, but hang, what's with $730 for a Best Western?

Just now, I'm thinking the Mercure is about the only reasonable value without looking at private apartments.

Any feedback, tips, suggestions or recommendations?

Swanning_it - the Hilton is spectacular in Perth. Old charm, one of my fav's in the world (yes big call) even without a lounge :)

Perth is unreasonable, expensive and genrally poor accommodation in my experience unless paying top $$$. My advice is Rydges or Hilton in town, or head out to the Swan Valley - the $$$ you save vs city will pay for a nice rag top from Eurocar.

Rydges has an exec lounge!

Trouble is I'm not a Rydges exec stayer!

I was looking at the Swan Valley, but with just 2 nites there, I think in town would suit better. Last time I was in Perth, we got a very nice 3 bed apartmant off Stayz for under $200 a nite so I might try that again.

Hilton would have to do much better to entice me there, old world charm or not!

What about a priority privilege BOGO at the CP, total cost is $449, I will give you one of my certs if you don't want to join, although the food savings would be handy for that stay as well!

I tend to alternate between the CP and Hilton. For me the CP is the better of the two, and so far as an IHG Platinum I have received top floor river view rooms, and last time

My stays at The Hilton are usually when I'm collecting stays/nights for requalification. I haven't been impressed with it at all. The location is better for the city centre though.

Perth is a pain for hotels.

Perth is going to be tough mid week. +1 used a PP BOGO last time she was there in a group of three. The extra bed was charged for each night so that may need to be added on to the rate.

Thanks for the offer markis10. I do have PP but one cert will be used by then unless I see some newsletter specials for March or Apr. With CP, it seems although they advertise double double rooms, they only allow 3 to stay which means 2 rooms and 2 certs for a total of $800+.

I really dislike the PER Hilton too. Not sure why but I see it as old without the charm and I was pretty unimpressed with my room last time. Add the lack of an exec lounge and it would be my least favourite Hilton so far.

Just go with the one room, and three names, the three is more an issue with holidex their booking system, I don't think you will have an issue.

Another option is the Rendezvouz at Scarborough, and now that it came to mind probably a better one for a family stay, checked your dates and its $250 a night for 4:

There is something weird about watching the sun to down into the ocean for us east coasters, and it's not a bad area for a bit of R&R!

I think you may have cracked it. That looks good, but need to confirm with reservations tomorrow about a few promising things they just told me. If it works out like mentioned, we'll get accom for 4, high floor with views, club lounge access with canapes & drinks, parking, newspaper, breakfast, internet and no CC surcharge (a personal beef of mine against most of the majors). Best of all, a fair rate (less than half the Hilton with no lounge).

Thanks for that. Problem may be solved.

Enjoy if it works out, spent more than a few nights at that hotel as well as the apartments next door which used to be the all seasons observation rise, sitting on the balcony watching the sun get put out by the Indian Ocean with a nice glass of wine is one of life's simple pleasures!

Go for the Rendevouz. I believe that the upper floors have been recently renovated so you will get decent quality rooms. And the drinks from the exec lounge while the sun sets is just amazing.

OK, thanks to all who've helped me out with this and especially to markis10 for the suggestion I ended up going with.

I've booked the Rendezvous double double superior room with a request for a balcony and view for a rate of $212.50/nite (A/P). The rooms look to be a reasonable size but unfortunately we couldn't get the club rooms with lounge access but the rate is certainly great compared with the others I was pricing.

Are you still heading to this hotel? I'm looking around Perth hotels atm, and would appreciate any further reviews of this hotel and the area.

I stay at the Scarborough Rendevous every time I go to Perth as I don't have a need to be in the city and it always seems to be the best value when I search for hotels.

I like the location on the beach and the renovated rooms are very good, comfortable and spacious enough.

Please note that the renovations have not finished at the hotel, there has been major works going on for the best part of a year and it can be a pain to be woken up early with the machinery going.

Last time I was there in late March, the reception area had just been finished and it is much fresher than it used to be. I believe all room types have now been renovated and completed with the restaurant and bar being completed now also. Common areas were being worked on.

Overall, I think it is good value for money as far as Perth goes. The staff are friendly, room service is hit and miss but there are plenty of eateries in close proximity.

I hate shower over bath in the bathrooms, so I always ask for a room without that but that is just a personal preference.

The ocean view rooms are great and I enjoy watching the sunset over the ocean of an afternoon or a storm out to sea at night.

I used to get upgrades to club rooms a lot but this has ceased currently but I think this is possibly due to me changing my booking habbits from booking directly with the hotel to booking through VA.

I do rate the hotel much higer now than I used to since the renovations, although I do know a lot of Perth people are not particularly fond of it for some reason.

Thanks for your input. I'm thinking of a weekend stay, so hopefully the building work stops on the weekend.

I keep forgetting to check the Velocity site for hotels and such - doing myself out of points - doh!

I hate showers over the bath too.

Probably a long held grudge against Mr and Mrs Bond for getting it approved in the first place, it stands out on the skyline!

Nothing to do with the Bonds. Everything to do with it standing out on the skyline.
