As an ex-Perthite I always like popping here for a drink

Steves Fine Wine and Food

Right near the river, swanky but you can wear whatever you like, and the Enomatic machines give you a chance to try quite a few wines by the glass that you wouldn't normally be able to buy by the glass.

My recent top restaurants are Halu in mt Hawthorne and the Trustee bar and bistro in Perth.

Both really good food, but having just come back from a multi Michelin star trip in Europe, I can easily say that even pubs here are overpriced. Something is wrong when you get the bill in a 2 star restaurant and say wow, that's cheap. Then everyone else looks at you oddly...

Ok I've finalised my accommodation bookings - four different hotels over four nights. Pullman Bunker Bay ($259 with breakfast), Four Points by Sheraton (12K SPG points/$282), Crown Metropol ($214 after Webjet $30 discount), Hyatt Regency (Deluxe room $259 with breakfast and self-park). Let's see if I get any upgrade at Four Points with SPG Gold using an award redemption.

Will just go to Rottnest for the day with bike hire.

Now working thru the itinerary and restaurants...

Hi Kyle, would be interested to see your whole itinerary, looks that you may have packed a bit too much in ?

Well I've got my times all worked out already.

Day 1: After right landing in PER, drive down to Bunker Bay, mid-stop the marine park at Rockingham.
Day 2: Visit Dolphin Centre at Bunbury and the caves at Yallingup. Probably won't go to the winery since my partner doesn't drink. Drive back to PER.
Day 3: Catch early morning ferry to Rottnest, return 5 hours later. Have a browse at Fremantle markets.
Day 4: Drive to Pinnacles and visit Lake Thetis and Hansen Bay Lookout.
Day 5: Enjoy the included hotel breakfast, then fly out at noon.

Well good luck with that, it's a packed itinerary that I wouldn't do. There's just too much driving for mine.

Packed itinerary. Enjoy Bunker Bay. When it was a Quay West it was my favourite place in WA. Great fire place in the bar.

Driving should be ok. Have driven to Mt Buller and Falls Creek and even Perisher in one hit. Also booked a Beamer. Should be fun.

Bear in mind our roads are very poor, not like Eastern highways generally. The new Per-Bunbury is decent but the rest is still not great for very high speeds and you frequently get held up by slow drivers. Very driving heavy itinerary but each to their own.

also note Chez Pierre is a great restaurant in Claremont/Nedlands area. Been the twice last 2 weeks and booked for next thurs too.

Definitely not recommended. You will be spending all day traveling instead of quality time at any of the places.

My 2 cents worth... I would just do a day trip to Rotto and not stay any nights there. Get the ferry from the city instead of Fremantle and that can double as your river cruise.

Heading over soon and my wife hasn't been - we looked at Rotto and gobsmacked that it was cheaper to do a 'deal' and stay 3 nights than it is for ferry, bike hire, etc. and staying 1 night. We ended up booking a day trip instead. $165 for the 2 of us including bike and snorkel hire, so not a bad deal I thought!

Most of the driving would be on day 4 I think. About 5 hours

How'd you end up going? The first trip my wife & I did to Perth Nov 2011 we clocked up about 3000km in the 2 weeks we were there, still had lots of time to relax & enjoy though and found it just fine :)

I'm back!

And I'll be putting up some reviews on Tripadvisor in due course.

Hotels... ended up at Pullman Bunker Bay, Rendezvous Scarborough, Crown Metropol and Hyatt Regency.

Car... brand new BMW 320 from Hertz. Covered about 1,400 kms.

Dinners... Other Side of the Moon (Pullman), The Melbourne Hotel, 88Noodle Bar (Crown), Sushia at Brookfield Place, St Georges Tce. Wanted to try Jamie's Italian, but there was a 1.5 hour wait.

Activities... Cape Naturaliste, Lake Cave, Rottnest Island, Fremantle Markets, Crown, Pinnacles.

Plane... VA. Old bird on way to PER with my IFE not working. New bird on way back with a much better IFE (Red???). The yellow Thai curry lunch was great too.

A great relaxing trip.

Thanks for the update.

I haven't been to the Pullman (old "bunker bay resort") in a while, interested to know what you thought of it and its restaurant.
