Departing Flight: QF852
Aircraft Type: 747-438
Aircraft Registration: VH-OJD
Class: J
Seat: 4E

My favorite seat on this aircraft is 4E as it has aisle access, and is forward of the first door so it makes it feel very private and less like you're sitting in a large tube.

The Business Class service here is great as the crew keep the service in the galley area just aft of row 3/4 and therefore there aren't trolleys being pushed backwards and forwards during the service of meals and drinks.
Before the flight I visited the Qantas Club for a snack and a drink. Scotch & Coke was my choice from the bar and the food selection was pizzas as the hot food, as well as the usual dry foods and cold options.
Boarding was called from the lounge at about 2:05 (for a 2:25 departure) and priority boarding was working well.
I love the 747 service to Perth - the Skybed, while a sloped version, is far superior to the seats on the 767 / A330 domestic aircraft and the service is always top notch.

Sadly on this service the AVOD wasn't operating so it was a loop system only. The crew did try and restart the system so there was a 20 minute down time, but after an attempt it was determined that the system wasn't cooperating so we all just used the loop video. I watched "A week with Marlyn" as I'd seen all the other movies (sans We Bought a Zoo, which I knew would be showing on my 767 return flight) on other flights made over the past month or so. It was quite a good movie.

The meal service was good. Drinks service offered first. Then an entree of Soup, which was served hot and was tasty, with sourdough bread and a glass of Cullen wine - superb. For mains, I selected the snapper which was very nice. Desert was the usual Maggie Beer ice cream (I can't for the life of me understand why Qantas don't serve something better than this - from almost all of my flights this year hardly anyone touches the icecream - Quince and Vanilla was the flavour - they would be better off offering a Magnum...) and cheese. I actually decided to be brave and tried the Quince ice cream - it did not impress.

The flight was fast - under 4 hours, and landing in Sydney was ahead of schedule by 10 minutes.

Priority baggage worked, which was a nice relief.
