A short break - we had. Someone might be interested in staying here and eating at some of Townsville’s finest.

You can now take a Hertz car over to the Island. Weather wasn’t the best, not the most pleasant journey .... the hire car got a thorough wash (with salt water)

The weather took a turn for the worst, soon enough the rain was horizontal... decided it would be best to eat in-house.

I can highly recommend Wayne and Adeles The Garden of Eating and/or Michels on Palmer St if you like quality food....and The Balcony in the city always do a good breakfask or lunch. Gyo (the Japanese restaraunt in North Ward) is also pretty good.

At least the rain was very welcomed by the locals! Townsville’s water supply was running dry - the local council was pumping water from the Burdekin.... at a staggering cost of $35,000 a day.

We tried to get in at michels for a late lunch .... next time. I'll add all these places to the list - cheers!

Thanks, some great tips. We might head up to TSV to visit friends next year.

I see my new signature is working :) It's a terrific spot to visit.... quite like Townsville, more appealing than Cairns IMO

Jam never disappoints. My current favourite. Townsville has had great restaurants since at least 1978 when we first arrived, a lot of them in Palmer street. Michel has had some of the best restaurants around Townsville. UBER eats is hurting a lot of restaurants.

Random fact: we helped open The Balcony Restaurant in 1982

Ron is in TSV now for 5 weeks and I will be there next week, so will try a few of these - GYO is our favorite.

Make sure you go to Kissing Point. I always see turtles when I wander along the board walk. Then Jezzine Barracks is also worth a look.

You could also be lucky enough to watch the Jets doing circuits from RAAF Base over to Magnetic Island..

Though if you are a senior and price is a factor then don't forget the Cowboy's club.A senior can join for a year for $6.60.You get 19%v off all food and drinks. The membership paid off for us on the first night-a bottle of wine + oysters and a couple of mains will do that.

Update....

The people that own Jam have now opened a 2nd place across the road called Bridgewater https://www.bridgewaterq.com.au

Sadly, Michel's and Seasoned have both ceased trading.

TWO of Townsville’s top restaurants have announced they are closing in the city’s premier dining and accommodation strip.
One of the city’s longest-running restaurants, Michel’s in Palmer St, closed on December 22, announcing the move on Facebook on January 5.

Seasoned, another Palmer St restaurant, has announced it will close on January 25.

Seasoned owner Lyn Withey said difficult trading conditions contributed to the closure but that other reasons, which she declined to reveal, were also at play.

“It is a very difficult market and has been for a long time. Part of it is economics,” Ms Withey said.

Ms Withey said restaurants suffered during difficult economic conditions.

“We need a really good international airport and we need to be bringing people in and having things for them to see and do,” Ms Withey said.

“There’s a lot of talk about lots of things happening but talk doesn’t get us anywhere. We need concrete things happening on the ground.”

I went on a day trip to TSV over the long weekend and thought I'll share the view of Magnetic Island from Castle Hill. Thanks to this thread, I found out about Jam and while on my hike down the Goat Track, I decided to stop by for their special lunch + wine menu. Sadly I got a chance to take only a parting shot of the restaurant exterior after I had already devoured the grilled Barramundi fish and chips...
