Hi
I am building a house and have the opportunity to get a lot of Velocity points but the catch is they are charging 2% extra to pay by credit card.

I have looked at it and am thinking it could be worthwhile if I use the points to upgrade to business class.

I have a Virgin High Flyer card which gives me 1.25 points per dollar.

I am interested in what other peoples thoughts are on this and whether it is worthwhile.

it probably is (depending on where you are going) - your best bet will be to calculate the cash value of your upgrade (e.g. difference between base fare of economy and business) and then confirm that the return will be greater than your 2c per point outlay to 'buy' the points.

If using your HFC the points will cost you 1.6c each to earn. Work out the value of the points for the upgrade you want to use them for, if its worth more than 1.6cpp then its worth it.
