Just reported on 3aw that the QF flight that landed at LHR at 05.30am local time had an unruly pax moved from J to Y and then restrained. He was actually placed in a crew seat with plastic restraints, because Y was full.

The Y pax who was interviewed said that the J pax was very unruly and verbally abusive. Didn't quieten down until about 4 hours out of LHR. Rumour is that he assaulted an FA. Plane was met by armed police who escorted him off.

Other pax delayed on plane until interviewed by police.

Sounds like something bad has happened.

And now it is in the paper.

AN Australian Navy Lieutenant-Commander has been arrested at Heathrow airport over an alleged assault on a flight from Melbourne.
Up to 15 police swooped on Qantas Flight 9 when it landed at Heathrow at 5.15am local time (3.15pm Sydney) Thursday.

The 57-year old officer was being questioned in a west London police station.

Yet another (alleged) Aussie Moron making news for all the wrong reasons.

We're on a roll!

Trouble on QF9: The good, the not-so-bad, and the Ugly

So I've just taken QF9 MEL-SIN-LHR. Now jetlagggggged as and missing someone heaps. An interesting experience nevertheless.

The good

1. From reading I think JohnK's story, I made a random_but_very_polite request @ check-in if it's even possible to get the middle seat next to mine in whY blocked. The nice lady said yes, but only for MEL-SIN leg (as it's not that full). She then offered me a great seat in row 40 for the SIN-LHR leg. So much leg room. Thank you QF :p!

2. Getting off the plane in SIN, this mature-ish lady looked lost @ the gate. I asked if she was travelling enroute to LHR later, to which she said yes. So I invited her to the QF lounge. She accepted, saying it was her lucky day. That made me smile. I hope she enjoyed the lounge and had a good flight from LHR to CPH later this morning.

3. Managed to watch Gran Torino and the Reader. Good movies.

The not-so-bad

They ran out of hot breakfast. The middle of the whY cabin was served first, and everyone chose that option. Meaning, the first 15 rows ended up with the continental option, which wasn't that bad.

The real trouble

About 30 mins after take-off from SIN, this 60s gent travelling in J assaulted 2 fellow J pax. So much yelling and eff-ing this and eff-ing that. The FAs restrained him and forcefully took him to the whY cabin and tied him up (I really meant it) in 40J where the FAs normally rest (lucky us). He was handcuffed for the entire flight, even got spoon-fed for food and water. Really annoying for about an hour or so because of his shouting.

Upon landing in LHR, the captain asked us to stay put. Six armed police got on board and it took them a good 30 mins to fix him up and take him off the plane. Serious stuff. Maybe a bit overkill with 6 police, but hey...

I really look forward to my return trip in J

Amazing they sent six armed police to deal with a man that had previously been forcibly moved and then restrained by a few flight attendants in a crowded aircraft! Sounds like the cabin crew did a great job in controlling the situation.

That is one thing that I hope never to see when I fly.

Accepting that restraint was the right thing to do I would not want to be an FA in this situation. Someone angry and possibly a little tired and emotional can provide serious opposition to large policemen let alone a hard working FA.

Six bobby's may seem overkill but certainly a safe number.

Did the gentleman leave quietly?

Hope that your J trip is less eventful.

Six must be the magic number for these type of situations - had a similar experience the last time I flew into LHR - a guy in Y had too much to drink and got into an argument with his girlfriend, and then proceeded to lock himself in a bathroom for the rest of the flight (including landing). We all waited for about 20 minutes at the gate whilst 6 UK police boarded the plane, dragged the bloke out of the bathroom and escorted him away.

My in-laws got stuck in LHR yesterday arriving from SYD on BA10 waiting for a 'security incident' to be cleared - must have been the same one as they would have arrived not too long after QF9.

He left quietly, having been tied up by those black plastic strings/straps. The police almost lifted him up (he's a big guy), with 4 police cars on the ground (2 sedans and 2 vans). The whole time I was thinking that was $$/points 'well-spent'. May even be tax payers' money noting that he's in defence.

Great to have an AFF member on the flight with a first hand account. The news article mentioned he was behaving oddly. Drunk?

Any further news on what actually happened? I have done a Google search but probably using the wrong keywords....

He was apparently drunk... even the police had to drag him offboard (T4).

A couple of things about Heathrow T3:

1. The queue @ immigration was horrendous. Waited for over 1.5 hours. I so wished I had an express pass right there right then.

2. Whilst I was talking to someone near the waiting area, there was this little MOUSE running around being curious about everything. YUK!!!!!!!!
